A Note from the Director:
Students have been learning about modes of transportation. I want to share a hug thank you for families that can to the Touch-A-Truck event on Wednesday. It was a great turnout. At school students have been classifying vehicles traveling by land, water, and air. They have identified letters to build trains, used shapes to build cars, made letters with toy vehicles, and many more activities. Next week, students will be learning about Community Helpers. Coming up will be a week of lessons about food. Students will have an opportunity to make their individual English muffin pizza and measure ingredients for pancakes. Some teachers will bring in other healthy choices to continue the cooking lessons. Please let your teacher know if you would like for your student to participate in an alternative activity.
A Turkey activity has been sent home with students. We ask that families work on disguising the Turkey. Once yours is completed, please send it into school with your student. We put these around the gym for students to see during their inside recess. We have had a Mariachis Turkey, Olaf Turkey, Santa Turkey, and many more great ideas. Please be creative and have fun with your student. If you need multiple Turkey templates, please give us a call so we can send them home in your student’s folder.
Nurse Notes
Parents,
It's that time of year we are seeing a lot of illness.
1) Please have a plan in place when the nurse calls to pick up your student.
2) Fever of 100 or above, students will be sent home .
3) Vomiting and diarrhea, students will be sent home .
4) Disruptive coughing will be up to discretion of the nurse she may call to have your student picked up.
5) Please be sure your students are dressed for the weather as the students will be going outside even when it starts getting colder. School policy is they can go out down to 32 degrees.
6) Parents please be sure your students have extra clothes, underwear, pants, and tops in their backpacks or in their lockers at school, as I do not always have clothes here at the school to fit your student .
7) Handwashing and covering their coughs will help with controlling the spread of illness in our school, please work with your student on these hygiene habits.
Any questions on whether to send your student to school please call Nurse Jerri 765-362-0005

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Willson Preschool Academy has worked with the Crawfordsville Police Department to improve the car rider arrival and dismissal procedures. On Monday, please follow these updated instructions:
Approach Wabash Ave from the South: Drive on Wallace Ave to Wabash Avenue. We recommend using College Street.
Stop at the Wabash Avenue Intersection: When you reach the intersection of Wallace Avenue and Wabash Avenue, come to a complete stop.
Turn onto Wabash Avenue: Only make a right turn onto Wabash Avenue if there is space available in the parking lot. This helps avoid blocking traffic on Wabash Avenue.
Enter the Parking Lot: Turn into the first Preschool entrance and proceed to the next available parking spot.
Exit the Parking Lot: Turn right as you exit the parking lot.
At Dismissal, Provide Student’s Name: At the 1:50 pick-up time, give your student's name to the staff member stationed at the corner of Wabash Avenue and Wallace Avenue. This staff member will be wearing a safety vest.
Drop-off starts at 7:50 AM, and car rider dismissal is at 1:50 PM. We encourage all parents to use the car rider line for both drop-off and pick-up. Students arriving by bus will enter through Door 1. Parents picking up their child on foot should go to the gate near the playground on Wallace Avenue. See the map on the opposite side for reference.
Breakfast and Lunch
Lunch at Willson Preschool is $2.75 per meal unless you have been approved for Free or Reduced meals. To take advantage of free/reduced textbooks you must still fill out the free lunch application at: https://crawfordsville.familyportal.cloud/. Parents can also use the family portal to deposits on their student's lunch account.

Mental Health
The holiday season is quickly approaching! While students look forward to the excitement of this season, it can also be an overwhelming time. There are many factors surrounding the holidays that can make it an anxious time for your child. While some children are aware of how they are feeling, some might not communicate that they are feeling stressed verbally. Watch for signs in mood and behavior, their interests, or their eating and sleeping habits. It is important to remember that children benefit from a daily routine to help them feel safe and secure. They also benefit from knowing what to expect in advance. Here are some tips to help you and your child enjoy this season while still being aware of their feelings.
Maintain Routine. While this can be hard during the holidays, try to stick to a routine with your child. Children thrive with consistency. Keeping consistent routines like meal time and bedtime helps reduce stress.
Communicate. Give your child the details on your agenda or what to expect beforehand. Talk about scenarios with them so they know how to respond. Acknowledge and show you are actively listening to the way your child is feeling, talk through it with them.
Family Time. Spend time together and laugh! Go outside and play, fresh air can reset your child’s mood and help them burn some energy. If you cannot go outside, do something together inside! Board games, card games, crafts, reading a story, anything to bond with your child while they are home on break will help reduce stress and anxiety. It is important to limit screen time, too.
Self Care. This is important for both parents and children. Even if it is fifteen minutes, take time to do something positive and mindful. This will help you recharge your emotional batteries. It gives you or your child the time to reset and find your calm spot. Kids absorb how adults react to situations, so if you allow holiday stress to get to you, your kids likely will feel it, too.
