The Weekly Highlander

This week Hewes PTA has organized Walk to School activities. There is a map in this newsletter to show the location of the check-in stations, where there will be snacks and tickets for students to add their names to a lunchtime raffle. Please encourage your student to walk or ride their bike to school on the 9th.

Tustin Unified School District will host the annual Pathways to Success Event on October 9th at Foothill High School. There will be a range of speakers to help parents and students begin the conversation about what is next after high school. The event begins at 5:30 pm and is appropriate for middle and high school students and their families.

We are so thankful that the Knights for Knowledge student volunteers will be at Hewes on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school to support our students. We appreciate the students from Foothill who are volunteering to help our Highlanders. Please encourage your students to come to the library on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school for academic help.

Congratulations to Mr.Lee. He continues to go above and beyond to help the teachers on his team. He is committed to the students at Hewes and works so hard to ensure they have the materials that they need to be successful. Mr.Lee is a team player and we could not do it without you! The Hewes staff is recognizing HIGHLANDERS “H” FOR A DAY AWARD! Highlander for a Day is a program at Hewes Middle School that celebrates students for incredible moments in the areas of Respect, Responsibility, and Results.

Meet our New Hewes Counselor Ms.LaBrosse, she supports students with last names that start with the letters A - Li. Last year Ms.LaBrosse was a counseling intern and is so excited to be at Hewes. She attended middle School at Bell Intermediate in Garden Grove. If you have not met her yet, when you are in the front office, please welcome her to the Highlander Family.

FUN FACT: She is a Foodie - she loves to try new restaurants and is always accepting recomendations

To encourage students to participate in Walk to School Day PTA has set up stations in the neighborhood where students can stop to get a snack and complete a raffle ticket. Our Walk To School Stations will be open on Wednesday, October 9th from 8:35am - 8:55am. There will be a drawing at lunch on the 9th for some amazing prizes that are being provided by our sponsor Erin LeMaster Architecture.

Sixth-grade families interested in the ELOP after-school program need to reach out to Nancy Roman at the YMCA. The best way to connect is to email her directly at nroman@ymcaoc.org. She will be able to provide information about eligibility and registration.
