Elmwood Morning and Afternoon Traffic
Dear parents and guardians,
As the new school year begins, we would like to urge you all to prioritize road safety by adhering to traffic rules before and after school. The safety of our children is of utmost importance, and by following these simple rules, we can create a secure environment for everyone.
Last school year, Elmwood had 642 car riders on the first day of school. As you can imagine, it took right at 1 hour for all students to be picked up. After day one, students were consistently picked up in 30 minutes after school due to the parents' cooperation and concern for the safety of their child. Please note, Bonnie Grimes Elementary is 1 block away and releases their car riders at 2:45. This amount of traffic causes quite a bit of congestion on 13th street, New Hope, and Olrich street. Please be patient with us and your child.
Always remember to obey speed limits, stop at pedestrian crossings, and avoid parking in no-parking zones or obstructing school entrances. Let's work together to ensure a safe journey to and from school, protecting our precious children and fostering a culture of responsible driving. Your cooperation in this matter will make a significant difference in keeping our community safe and sound. Thank you for being mindful drivers and caring parents.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Molly Davis
Principal

Morning Drop-Off Procedures:
- Follow the traffic patterns outlined below in the image.
- Drop your student off in the back of the school, not the front. The front drop-off lane is for buses only.
- DO NOT drop your student off on Olrich or 13th street. This puts your child in extreme danger.
- DO NOT drop your child off in the turning lane on 13th street. This may result in a catastrophic accident.
- The school is open at 7:15, so I encourage you to drop your child off early!
After School Pick-up Procedures:
- Follow the traffic patterns outlined below in the image.
- Dismissal bell rings at 3:10, and students will immediately exit the west (back) doors to be picked up.
- Please do not pick your child up on Olrich or 13th street. This causes major congestion for everyone.
- Please do not pick your child up in the east (front) parking lot. That is for buses and staff only.
- Please be patient with the staff and your child during the afternoon. Traffic is terrible and we're all doing our best to ensure the safety of car riders, walkers, and bus riders.
