Hosford Middle School
October 28th - November 1st
Learning in action in Ms. Elwer and Mr. Limb's Classes
Hosford is an AVID school, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. Throughout the school, we use AVID learning strategies to advance student learning. Socratic Seminars is one of those strategies, and usually a student and staff favorite. During a Socratic Seminar, students use questions and statements to engage in thoughtful discussion and debate.
The Halloween Dance was a success!

Volunteers - Lunch Supervision
As the weather turns and more students stay inside for lunch, volunteers are needed to help supervise lunch!
There are two lunch periods (12:03 to 12:33 pm and 12:53 to 1:23 pm). Sign up to help at one -or both- using the link below.
Current PPS background check needed; check in at office for name tag when you arrive.
Thank you! This is really appreciated by staff!
Site Council Volunteers
Would you like to help with school planning initiatives and goals? The Hosford Site Council needs three parent volunteers to provide feedback and help work through planning for the school. Site Council is a unique group, consisting of teachers, parents, and administration, where all voices are heard. We meet almost every month for about an hour from 4:15 - 5:00 pm to look at the School Continuous Improvement Plan (SCIP), school data, and plans for programs and professional development. If you're interested in this opportunity to get involved in Hosford, please email Principal Jill Liddle, jliddle@pps.net.
Library Updates
This week in the HMS library, all 6th grade Huskies got to meet with our Belmont branch youth librarian to talk about Multnomah County Library services and connect to their MCL accounts!
But wait, isn't the Belmont branch closed for renovations? Yes, but did you know we have a temporary hold pickup location on 36th and Hawthorne? Don't lose access to your favorite MCL reads during this time! At the Hawthorne pop up location, you can pick up holds, drop off books you've read, and even browse a limited collection! This location will remain here in the neighborhood through the Belmont construction period.
Thanks for supporting your local libraries, and happy reading!

Car Pick-up and Drop off at Hosford
Help us keep traffic flowing and students safe! Please do not park in the crosswalk and follow the map below to keep the flow.
Funds for Hosford!
So far we have raised $3,271. Please help us reach our goal of $12,000 by donating today!
This is the PTSA's biggest fundraiser of the year and it is happening now!
The no-stuff fundraiser was started in 2019 to celebrate 100 years of education at Hosford. This donation drive allows the PTSA to fund student activities, host staff appreciation events and provide teacher grants for technology, books, art supplies and classroom equipment. In other words, it makes an immediate and powerful impact on our school. Every bit helps!

Off and Away All Day
Cell phones, ear buds, headphones and smart watches are off and away all day. Please talk with your child at home so they can prepare for this.
If your child has listening to music as an accommodation on a 504 plan or Individual Education Plan, we have wired headphones that they will wear to access that accommodation. If your child needs noise cancelling headphones, we will have options for this as well.
