August Parent Update
Welcome Back to a New School Year!
Dear Westropp Families,
Welcome back to another exciting school year at Clara Westropp! We hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready to embark on a new academic journey with us.
This year, we have some exciting new programs and activities planned, along with our continued commitment to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential for student success, and we encourage you to stay involved and engaged with your child’s education throughout the year. As always, we are here to support you and your child every step of the way. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

As a reminder, classes at Westropp begin at 7:35am, with the school doors opening at 7:15am for students who would like breakfast. Dismissal is at 2:05pm.
First Days of School Dates
Back to School Bash: August 15th 2:05 p.m-4:05 p.m.
First Day of School for Grades 1-8: August 19th
First Day of School for Kindergarten: August 23rd
First Day of School for PreK: September 3rd
Cell Phone Policy
Starting this school year (2024-2025), Clara Westropp will be a "Cell Phone Free" school. We will continue to collect cell phones and they will be placed in a locked box by grade level at the door upon entry. Phones will be returned last period. This aligns with CMSD's board policy and discipline can be issued per the Student Code of Conduct.
Enrollment
There is no need to submit an enrollment application for any student who is currently enrolled at Clara E. Westropp. We do have PreK and Kindergarten spots still open; however, our Kindergarten spots are filling quickly. If you have you have not done so already, please complete the enrollment application as soon as possible.

First Day of School Arrival Information-Grades 1-8
- All students will be directed to the cafeteria to their assigned classroom table where they will have breakfast. Staff will be in the cafeteria to help assist all students to the correct table. Teachers will meet students in the cafeteria and take them to their assigned classrooms at 7:35 AM. This procedure will remain the same for the rest of the school year.
- If your child is not sure what class they are assigned to, there will be staff outside of the building and within the building to help them as they make their way to the cafeteria.
- Unfortunately, this year parents will not be allowed to walk their students into the building or into their classrooms. Please know that we have a lot of helping hands that will assist your student to class safely.
Supplies
We will provide supply kits to all students this year, you will need to supply the backpack only. We are however asking that you consider contributing:
- Sanitizing wipes
- Baby wipes
- Kleenex
- Paper Towels
Drop Off & Pick Up
Drop Off:
- Parents will drop off using the front using the grass line to the left, this lane is drop off ONLY
- YOU DO NOT PARK ON THAT GRASS LINE for any reason!
- If you need to park please use the spots available to the right.
- All student must enter through the front doors.
- Cell phones will be collected for ALL students per the Board of Education.
Pick up:
- Dismissal will begin at 1:57pm.
- Walkers will be dismissed from the far right of the front of the building (Same as last year), in front of the gym.
- Car riders will be picked up ONLY from the back using the car line. NO student will be released through the front for car pick up in grades 1-8.
- Kindergarten parents will pick up their child at the main doors.(Same as last year)
- PK parents your teachers will share drop off and pick up procedures with you directly.
Reminder: This year parents will not be allowed to walk their students into the building or into their classrooms. Please know this is for the safety of our students, staff and community. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this time.
Back To School Bash
Our teachers will be ready and excited to meet all of our PreK through 8th graders on Thursday, August 15th between 2:05-4:05 PM. Please plan to stop by during this time to meet your child's teacher.

Email is an important way for us to communicate with families. Please be sure everything is updated so you can receive any important information over the summer.

We MUST have current contact information for each student for daily communication and in case of emergencies. If your family has had a change of address or contact information (including both phone numbers and email addresses), please contact Ms. Dobransky, Secretary, in the main office at 216-838-6250. Proof of address will be required for address changes.
