The Falcon Flyer
November 22, 2024
From the Principal!
We are in the home stretch of the first semester as we head into the Thanksgiving Holiday break! There are just three more weeks of school left in the first semester when we return! We have an incredible turnout last night for our Family Title Night! Thank you Mrs. Lutz, Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Zachary, and all those that helped put on such a well-planned evening! We had a great time today giving all of our students 30 minutes of extra recess while our teachers were able to enjoy 30 extra minutes of planning. One thing our teachers can never get enough of is extra time for ALL the things throughout the day. We want to give a HUGE shout out to our PTO for organizing upcoming opportunities for volunteers to help provide lunch duty and recess coverage to give the gift of time. If you are willing and able to volunteer, look for the sign up links within this newsletter!
There are some exciting events for our Falcons happening this weekend. Our Fabra Green Machine Run Club will be participating in the YMCA Turkey Trot tomorrow morning! This event will be taking place at the Main Plaza! Additionally, our Life skills students will be at the Boerne Handmade Market on Saturday which will be held at 1910 Church. If you have a chance, go check them out and pick up some of the wonderful items they have for sell!
Please read through this week's newsletter for important dates, information, and exciting things happening around campus! As always, if we can help in any way, then please don't hesitate to reach out to our front office. Have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving Holiday!

2025-2026 Academic Calendar Feedback
Over the last month, the Calendar Committee developed and narrowed down options for the official BISD 2025-2026 academic calendar. We encourage all parents/guardians, employees, and secondary students to take a moment and review the two calendar options presented. Emails with unique feedback links from K12 Insight went out November 19.
The calendar with the most votes will be presented to the BISD Board of Trustees for approval on Monday, December 16.

Read to the Final Four!
All 3rd-grade classes are competing with over 300 elementary schools to see who can log the MOST READING MINUTES.
MRS. OWENS' CLASS IS IN THE LEAD WITH 5,880 MINUTES!!!! KEEP READING!
Parents: Make sure your child brings in their completed reading log with your initials EVERY MONDAY!
Library News and Updates!
We've caught quite a few Falcons reading during choice time. When students are caught reading, they get a ticket with their name on it. Every Wednesday, I pick one ticket from the jar on the announcements, and that student gets to choose from some fun library swag.
Here is this week's winner, Ashlyn Johnson, 4th grade.
LIBRARY LESSONS
This week we have focused on what we are thankful for. I remind them that it's important to focus on all we have, not what we don't. This is the key to happiness.
Kindergarten was reading, "One is a Feast for Me".
1st grade is reading, "Miss Holly is Too Jolly".
2nd grade is reading, "Sideways Stories from Wayside School".
3rd grade - 5th grade are organizing books using the call number and their prior knowledge of the ABC's.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am so grateful that I get to be your child's librarian. It is the BEST job!
LOST OR DAMAGED BOOKS: Please be careful not to leave any books while you travel over the break.
If your child damages a book, please have them bring it to me. I can fix a lot of things. Make sure they bring the damaged book into the library and show it to me, and we can figure out what to do about it. I emphasize to the students that I will never be mad at them over a book.
· If a book is lost, you have some options
· You can pay the replacement cost. I will send home an overdue notice with the amount on it.
§ We take cash- try to have the exact amount as I don't often have change.
§ We take checks made out to Fabra Elementary.
§ You can also pay using a credit card on RevTrak which you can find on our website.
· You can purchase a replacement that is used as long as it is a HARD COVER and in good or better shape.

Calling All Falcon Fathers!!!
Spend the day at Fabra!
Falcon fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures....Would you like to volunteer for at least one day each year? During the day, Falcon Fathers may read to a classroom, play at recess, help out in P.E, eat lunch with students and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. On the day of their participation, Falcon Fathers are given a brief review of their involvement and get to wear an official Falcon Father t-shirt.
Please limit your initial sign-up to only ONE date, and additionally sign-up for the "Waitlist" slot if you would like to be notified of last minute openings that would allow you to participate again.
