Our first month of school is ending and the students are beginning to fall into a rhythm with the school schedule. While the weather has still been quite warm, that can begin to change soon. As a reminder, please be sure your children dress in layers while at school. And please label your child’s belongings so we can return lost items to their correct owner.
ARRIVAL TIMES
As a reminder, Mohegan School opens the doors for students starting at 8:45am. Doors close at 9am. Any student arriving after 9am must come to the main doors and be signed in by an adult. We encourage all students to take the bus so they arrive to school on time. Academics start at 9:10. Students who are tardy can feel rushed and behind through the morning hours as they are trying to catch up with what their peers are doing.
SCHOOL CALENDAR
I encourage all parents to please adhere to the school calendar when planning family trips. Research shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to have higher grades compared to students who miss more days of school. In addition, attendance is one of the criteria that is counted toward our report card with the state of Connecticut. When students are absent for vacations, those absences can add up and ultimately count against us. Teachers are not required to provide work in advance for students who will be out of school for vacations which means students have to make up the work upon their return. CHANGES TO DISMISSAL
Please be sure to send in a note or call the school to notify us of any changes in dismissal. Please do not email the teachers during the day as they are busy teaching and they may not check their emails. A phone call will always result in confirmation from an adult.
PRE-K NEWS
As a reminder, Connecticut immunization regulations require students ages 24-59 months attending Pre-K to receive at least one dose of the Flu vaccine between August 1st and December 31st. If this is the first time your child is ever receiving the Flu vaccine, two doses administered at least 28 days apart is required by the Connecticut immunization regulations. Please call your Pediatrician to schedule an appointment as soon as possible to prevent any delays or vaccine shortages! If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Cristina.
CAFETERIA NEWS
This week the cafeteria began selling novelty items such as ice cream and bags of chips. Students who owe money on their lunch accounts will not be able to purchase these novelty items. The cafeteria workers have been informed that if a child brings money for novelty items, their debt must be paid first. You can add money to a child’s account through Infinite Campus, or you can send in cash or a check.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Back to School Night at Mohegan School is coming up on Wednesday, October 2nd. Doors will open at 5:55. Parking is difficult so I recommend coming early as you may have to walk from a side street or the Nike Site to get in. Only the front doors will be open. The first session will start at 6:05. Teachers will talk for about 20-25 minutes. We will have a 5 minute transition and the second session will start at 6:35. This is so parents with 2 students can go to 2 classes. If you have more than 2 students at Mohegan, you will have to do the best you can! Back to School Night is over at 7pm. This is not a night for individual conferences. Should you wish to have a specific update on your child, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Parent Teacher conferences will be held October 17th and 24th.
SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR GRADE 1
The school schedule for Grade 1 is changing. As a result, the lunch time for Grade 1 lunch will now be from 12:30-1:00. If you are looking to volunteer for Grade 1 lunch duty, please note this new time. Grade 1 parents were emailed separately and should be aware of this change.
