We Are Monsters
We would like to extend our gratitude to our music teacher, Ms. Ferber, for orchestrating a truly outstanding production of "We Are Monsters!" It was evident that students in grades 3-5 who participated in Drama Club this Spring worked extremely hard to prepare for the show. We would also like to recognize Ms. Holmes and Ms. Myers who choreographed the show! This production would not have been made possible without each of you.
You're Invited: STEAM Night!
Our second annual STEAM Night will be held on Tuesday March 26th from 6:00-7:30 PM. Your child will get to show you STEAM activities students use at Stony Point, and you can try for yourself! Rotate to various rooms to participate in challenges, explore in scavenger hunts, try Virtual Reality, experiment with robotics, play math games and code!
**Note: We changed the time from 6:30 PM to 6:00 PM to give you more time to experience the activities. Our apologies that this change was not updated in the last edition of the Thunder.
Note from the Nurse: New COVID Guidelines

Lost and Found
We have an overflowing lost and found with many jackets and items! We keep the Lost and Found right outside of the cafeteria. Please feel free to check in at the front office and stop by to see what your child/children may be missing.
Dragon MAGIC Moments
This month, teachers have been implementing Three Act Tasks that encourage students to ask questions, make mathematical models, and revise their thinking. Included here is a photograph of a chart that a teacher is using in her classroom to promote mathematical discourse during Three Act Tasks and other learning experiences.
These are great sentence starters for your child to practice using at home as they observe the world around them, inquire, and express their thinking!
Keep your eye out in future editions of The Thunder for celebrations of learning and "Dragon Magic Moments" from individual classrooms!
Ms. Corpora's Counseling Corner
Stony Point's Virtual Career Fair is off to a great start this week! Scheduled from March 18th to the 28th, this fair boasts a diverse range of presenters, each offering insights into their distinct career paths. Students have already had the chance to virtually visit the UVA Law Library, explore the workspace of a skilled local leather artisan responsible for crafting an item for this year's Super Bowl, engage with representatives from our local Habitat for Humanity, and gain knowledge from a boat mechanic showcasing picturesque views from the marina.
In our classroom Counseling Lessons, students are delving into their personal interests and how they connect to various careers. Second grade to fifth grade students have all completed career interest surveys, revealing potential career paths that align well with their individual interests. I am excited to continue on this career exploration journey with our dragons!
*The attached image shows one of our 3rd graders. After completing his career survey, he is researching careers and creating a google slide career portfolio.
Welcome!
We are excited to meet our new Dragon friends from Cascadia and Riverview! More information about transition activities will be coming soon.

Gardening Update
Check out what each grade level will begin growing in their own raised garden beds and our greenhouse right here at Stony Point! A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who have made these projects possible, especially Amber Capron and the Piedmont Master Gardeners.
- Kindergarten will be planting marigold seeds to take home for Mother's Day. They will also be planting a pizza garden (tomatoes, onions, basil, oregano, peppers) in their raised bed.
- Ms. Frazier's class will be planting a kitchen garden with peas, lettuce, spinach, kale, carrots, beets, and radishes.
- Second grade will be planting a pizza garden in their raised bed and also planting something in the greenhouse to take home.
- Third grade will be planting sunflowers, zinnias, and cosmos in their raised bed to help attract pollinators.
- Fourth grade will be planting a three sisters garden in their raised bed with glass gem corn, Cherokee Trail of Tears black beans, and white scallop squash (Native American heirlooms). They may also start some greens to make green smoothies.
- Fifth grade is also planting a pizza garden.
