Student Election Judge
Are you interested in serving as a student election judge this year?
You can earn $17.42/hour and help support democracy in your community by serving. Students who are interested will miss school on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, and are required to have permission from a guardian to participate. This is a great opportunity and a nationally recognized resume builder! See Ms. Barrett ASAP in the library for more information if you are interested in participating.
Students: Remember that every student is required to log 20 hours of community service as a graduation requirement; don’t wait to get started! You can pick up the sheet to record your hours in the library or print at home using this link, AND YOU MUST TAKE A SHEET TO AN EVENT TO BE SIGNED BY THE SUPERVISING NONPROFIT OR AGENCY. Below are several opportunities shared with us by outside organizations, or offered within or by our school.
BHS Make for Good Opportunities
In-School, “always open” opportunity, September 9-30!
Join us in the Compassionate Makerspace to make a stuffed elephant or llama (or both!) for clients of the Crawford Child Advocacy Center. Stuffies take approximately 3-4 periods to complete, some easy sewing is involved. Come share your established skills or let us teach you how, and earn community service hours without even leaving the school!
In-School, “always available,” ongoing opportunity!
Stop by the library during an open period to partner with our Compassionate Makerspace and create a set of birthday cards for the clients of two area nonprofits, Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud, and Project Self Sufficiency. You can pick up a kit of materials and the instructions at the main desk, stay in the library to make a set of 14 cards, return the cards to the library desk and earn an hour of service! This activity can be repeated up to 5 times (for a total of 5 hours).
Nearby Opportunity!
October 18-20, 2024, variety of opportunities available - Friends of the Loveland Public Library Book Sale @ The Ranch, 5280 Arena Cir, Loveland, CO 80538
Teens ages 15-19 are needed to help out at the annual Friends of the Library book sale at the Ranch! Duties include helping to organize books and direct customers to different areas of the sale, going in pairs to help people take book purchases to cars, and helping to construct boxes for moving books. Click this online sign up to see and register for the various duties and times!
November/December Opportunity!
The Salvation Army needs volunteer bell ringers from November 22nd through December 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday in Loveland, Berthoud, and Johnstown. The 2024 annual Red Kettle Campaign is one of our primary fundraising efforts, helping to raise much-needed funds in support of many local services and programs throughout the year, including Thanksgiving food baskets and Christmas gifts for children.
The community’s financial support and kindness during the holidays enabled The Salvation Army to assist 31,872 people in Northern Colorado last year. This includes emergency shelter and medical respite lodging for people experiencing homelessness, rent and homelessness prevention, clothing and homeless gear, diapers and hygiene kits, food and snacks, pet food, bus passes and gas vouchers, youth summer camps and school supplies. Of every dollar The Salvation Army collects, $.82 is used to support our local community services.
Volunteers choose the location, date, and shift that fits their schedules. Bell ringers can split a shift with a friend or sign up as a group, and can sign up by clicking this link of locations options or calling Director, Olga Duvall, at 970-699-8380.
Please see Ms. Barrett in the library to submit completed forms or for ideas on additional service opportunities.

🚗 BHS Parking Permits 🚙
ALL students that drive to BHS are required to display a parking permit in their vehicle to park on campus. Please register your vehicle at the following link: http://bit.ly/bhspermit or use the QR code posted by the main office for your FREE parking permit (1st=free, if replacement is needed=$2.00/ea.) Once you have completed the form and it has been processed, you will be called to the office to pick up your permit. The permits are good until the student graduates and will be turned in at that time.
Why is this necessary? For the students and staff safety we need information on every vehicle here at the school. Any vehicle without a permit or who is parked in violation of other school rules or laws may receive a Parking Violation from BHS. First offense is a $20.00 fine and fines go up for second and third violations. Payment must be made to the school’s Bookkeeping Office within 14 days after receiving the violation. Continual violations or a serious violation may result in loss of parking privileges at BHS. If you have any questions, please speak with SRO Deputy, Vince Mosley or Campus Security
