Teacher Appreciation Week!
THANK YOU for ALL that our teachers do each and everyday for our students! Please take the time this week to celebrate and thank our teachers and support professionals!
NGSA Science Testing May 8th!
NGSA Science Testing at SHS May 15th (Juniors)
On May 8th ALL 11th Grade Students will take the NGSA Science Test. Below are some important points for juniors.
As teachers, student progress from 8th grade to 11th helps us make decisions about what we are teaching and how. This is valuable because it is a way for us to improve what we are doing in our classes and down the road will help students be more successful.
This information helps support initiatives that science teachers and administration may request to add to our school curriculum.
This is a chance for each student to apply knowledge and skills to the state test and compare themselves to other students across the state. It should be a source of pride.
All of the teachers and administrators work hard to provide instruction, and all take this test very seriously so we ask that students return the favor to their teachers.
NGSA Achievement Levels and Performance
Accountability for our RIDE Report Card rating will include measures for science proficiency and science assessment participation using the science assessment data from previous years.
LEA or school performance "below mastery" for a specific science discipline may be an area for growth – LEA or school performance "at/near mastery" or "above mastery" are areas of strength
Over time, assessing overall school and district performance in science can find performance trends at each grade level

Mobile Food App Memo SHS
To: High School Students and Families
From: High School Administration and School Resource Officer (SRO)
Subject: Reminder – Food Delivery Policy and Building Safety
Dear Students and Families, May 2, 2025
We want to take a moment to address an important matter related to school safety. Recently, we have observed an increase in students using mobile food delivery services (such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc.) during the school day.
We understand the convenience these services offer, but please note that food deliveries are not permitted during school hours, as outlined in the student handbook. This procedure is in place to help us maintain a safe and secure environment for all students and staff.
Unfortunately, some students have been opening exterior doors to allow delivery drivers into the building. This has primarily occurred before lunchtime and during 8th and 9th periods.
Allowing any unauthorized individuals—no matter their purpose—into the building poses a serious safety concern. These actions create vulnerabilities in our security procedures and increase risks that are otherwise preventable.
Moving forward:
No food deliveries will be accepted at school during the instructional day.
If a delivery driver attempts to enter the building or make a drop-off, they may be subject to a safety check completed by the Police Department. The food will be searched and confiscated.
Any incidents involving unauthorized building access will be documented accordingly.
We ask for your partnership in reinforcing this policy with your student. Our shared goal is to keep our school safe, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring that we uphold these standards together.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Michael Hassell

From Science
Physical Science students were engaged in learning about light and optics during a lesson taught by Mr. Guertin from Rhode Island College during his final week of student teaching. A few of the stations included: light dispersion, refraction & color mixing and the science of shadows. Although many of the students have observed or experienced these phenomena on their own, Mr. Guertin's lesson explained the mechanism behind each of them with this kinesthetic lab.

Manning Baseball Field Work
Shout-out to our groundskeeper, John for taking care of the baseball field!
The infield mix was recently delivered, and John managed to distribute it across the field within a single day—a commendable effort, especially considering the added difficulty of having to trailer all necessary equipment to the site, rather than transporting it directly down the road as we did in the past. The field should NOT retain water for the remander of the season!
Alumni Shout Out!
From Scituate High School standout to Rhode Island College legend, Madison Medbury has left an indelible mark on the court and in the community.
Recently honored with the prestigious Helen M. Murphy Award at RIC's Cap and Gown Day, Madison's journey is a testament to excellence. Over her collegiate career, she played in 112 games, starting 88, and amassed 1,078 points, averaging 9.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Her leadership propelled the Anchorwomen to four Little East Regular Season Championships, three tournament titles, and deep NCAA Division III runs, including a Final Four appearance in 2023 and a Sweet 16 in 2024.
Madison's accolades include being named a D3hoops.com Fourth Team All-American, WBCA Honorable Mention All-American, and Little East Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Year.
A 2020 graduate of Scituate High School, Madison was a multi-sport athlete, earning All-State honors in basketball and soccer, and was named the 2020 Female Athlete of the Year.
Congratulations, Madison, on a stellar career and for being a shining example of dedication and excellence!
