Basketball Jones Performs at Emerson – Jan 15
On Wednesday, January 15, Jim “Basketball” Jones will perform amazing hardcourt feats at an all-school assembly at Emerson. Basketball Jones uses his basketball skill to deliver a fun positive behavior message.
Last week program flyers went home with students. The flyer explains the assembly and provides an order form for parents who want to purchase his fun, children’s autographed books.
Recess Safety: Dressing for Cold Weather
Even when the temperature feels like 11°F, recess is an important part of your child’s day. Fresh air and physical activity benefit their health, mood, and ability to focus in class. Our 6th-grade students love going outside for recess, even when the temperatures drop! It’s their chance to stretch, move around, and enjoy the fresh air.
Here are some tips to help your child enjoy recess, even in the cold:
- Use a Warm Coat: Choose a winter coat designed for cold weather, ideally with a hood for extra warmth
- Wear Proper Accessories: A warm hat, gloves or mittens, and a scarf are essential to protect exposed skin.
- Protect Feet: Boots will keep feet warm and dry. No Crocs please!
Cold weather doesn’t stop the fun, but staying warm and safe is key!
District policy is recess will be outside in windchill temps at 11 degrees and above unless there is extremely wet or icy precipitation.
Holiday Cheer
Small Acts of Kindness in 4th Grade
Over the Holiday Season, Mr. DiCerbo’s 4th Grade class made holiday ornaments to spread cheer. In the season of giving, we made ornaments to spread cheer for family, friends, and teachers too! We have been learning about small acts of kindness, opening doors to endless possibilities. Students were encouraged to create a thoughtful ornament for someone new, be it a classmate they don’t usually hang around, an old friend fallen out of touch, or even someone completely new! The classroom culture thrives off the kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness people can bring to one another.

Canvas
CANVAS LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM!
All students, grades Young 5s-12 use Canvas, a learning management system. Classroom teachers use Canvas to provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments for students, as well as parent communication.
Parents are encouraged to set up a parent/observer account to stay abreast of student learning. Canvas will allow parents to:
- Contact their child’s teacher
- View grades, due dates, and events
- See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school
- Support an absent student
- View classroom and building announcements
