Literacy Data Celebration!
During our January testing period, students worked hard to show off their reading skills. The graph below shows the growth across our building! There are lots of celebrations within this data and we are looking forward to continuing this growth through the spring. Families - be on the lookout for parent letters coming home soon that will let you know how your student(s) did on this reading assessment.
Irving's School Improvement Goals
Goal #1 - We will have a 5% decrease in students who are chronically absent. (Students are chronically absent when they have missed 10% or more of the school year.)
Our January attendance goal is 95%. Getting your student to school every day can help us meet our goal!! Students that miss 1 day or less will receive a special treat at lunch at the end of the month in addition to getting entered into a drawing for a bigger prize - more to come on this. Being at school is so important!
Goal #2 - We will increase our literacy and math ISASP test scores by 5% in grades 3rd-5th AND 80% students in grades K-2 will make typical or aggressive growth on our FAST literacy test.
Last year, 55% of grades 3-5 students were proficient on literacy ISASP and 63% proficient on math ISASP.
5th graders have been participating in a nonfiction reading unit about the Titanic. Last week they got to dip their hands into water that was similar to the temperature of the ocean water where the Titanic sank.
Mr. Schoning was also recognized for successfully completing the mentoring and induction program. Congratulations, Mr. Schoning!
