Weekly Wrap Up
Maple Place Middle School -12/15/23 - Week 14
Principal's Message :
Good Afternoon, Maple Place,
It was another busy week at Maple Place. Earlier this week Mr. DiTommaso and Mrs. Bach led the Maple Place Bands, Chorus, and Chimes in their Winter Concert performing for the school on Tuesday morning, and again for families and community members on Tuesday evening. What a great way to get into the holiday spirit.
We ended our week with another Festive Friday - this time - Ugly Sweater Day. Student Council sponsored an Ugly Sweater Contest collecting donations for local servicemen/women. Our last Festive Friday will take place next week - December 22nd - when we will celebrate Holiday Pajama Day! All students and staff are encouraged to participate!
Lastly, I wanted to take a moment to elaborate on the district attendance policy. Earlier this week, attendance letters were sent for those students who have accrued 4 or more absences or tardies thus far in the school year. What is important to remember is that although we do notate why students are absent (doctor's visits, shadow days, etc.) very few days are actually "excused" according to the state of New Jersey statute. There are no excused absences with the exception of Take Your Child to Work Day and specific religious holidays. All other absence are considered unexcused. However, if there is ever a question of truancy, I would most certainly be looking at the notes within the Realtime Student Information System to determine why a student has been absent. Therefore, I encourage you to make sure you contact Nurse Dora if your child is absent. If you have a doctor's note, please send it in with your child. This way, we can notate the reason for the absence and refer to this if it is needed. If you have any questions regarding a letter you have received, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Melissa Keiser
