On May 23rd, North pushed pause on traditional classroom learning and hosted its third annual Schoolwide Service Day. It was a day dedicated to learning about giving back to the community and having a little bit of fun along the way! Students participated in projects in which they:

• Assembled approximately 1,200 Sock Bundles for Dorothy Day Charities
• Packed about 1,200 Grab-and-Go Snack Packs for the The Ronald McDonald House
• Made over 100 journals, 75 tissue flowers, and over 150 keychains and bracelets to donate to Catholic Charities
• Cleaned up garbage from 10 parks and city spaces
• Planted at the gardens at St. Mark’s
• Created dozens of fleece tie blankets to donate to children through the Linus Project
• Washed dozens of cars that came for a free car wash
• Performed music for seniors in an assisted living facility

Cowern recently added an addition to their playground: a Buddy Bench made by North student Thomas Himmer. Thomas spent around 40-50 hours working on the bench, and it's now available for Cowern students to take a break and rest with a buddy!

Last Wednesday, our yearly Golden Prom was held today in the Peter O'Neil Hall at Guardian Angels Church in Oakdale. This event was beautifully put together by student volunteers and their advisors from both North and Tartan high schools, along with some help from Community Education. Much dancing was done to the wonderful music of the Golden Tones band.

This year, photojournalist Tony Peterson was on scene and the event was highlighted on "The 4 on WCCO."

Eagle Point 3rd grader Hiya Ghosh has been declared as the MN state winner for the 2024 "Doodle for Google" contest and is one of the 55 US State and Territory Winners for her doodle, "Electric Flying Cars" (My wish for the next 25 years is zero pollution, and flying cars for a world with less traffic and pollution).

Hiya's Doodle was selected from thousands of entries received this year, according to the Doodle for Google team.

To help their favorite Doodles succeed, people across the U.S. can vote for their favorite Doodle from the 55 State and Territory Winners. Voting will be open from May 22 - June 4 on this site: https://doodles.google.com/d4g/ and the public vote will determine the contest finalists and winner. Google will announce these five National Finalists in late May, one of whom will have their Doodle featured on the Google homepage for a day.

The National Winner will take home a $55,000 college scholarship and their school will receive a $50,000 tech package towards the establishment or improvement of a computer lab or technology program.

On Friday, the Tartan Concert Choir received Best in Show at the Trills and Thrills Competition, beating every other choir who attended this 3-day long, international festival! Students competed against choirs from the upper Midwest and Canada. We celebrated our win with an exciting afternoon at Valley Fair. Go Titans!

We have something for everyone including sports camps such as baseball, football and track, a Spanish summer Camp, a Red Cross babysitter’s training certification, and some STEAM Engineering courses. The Community Ed. Dept. has been awarded a 3 year grant of $1.5 million dollars by the MDE to create new afterschool programming options for middle school students. The result of this grant will be the creation of the afterschool program F.L.I.G.H.T. (Future Leaders Inspiring Growth, Honor and Talent).

F.L.I.G.H.T will be implemented at both John Glenn and Skyview Middle School as a 5-day week afterschool program, with a daily operating schedule of 2-6 p.m. F.L.I.G.H.T. will be a completely free program, and will be open to all students attending either John Glenn or Skyview.

The main purpose of F.L.I.G.H.T. will be to provide students with a wide variety of enrichment clubs, academic support, leadership opportunities and culturally affirming clubs. Students will be able to participate in clubs with focuses on art, science, financial literacy, athletics, cultural appreciation, theater, debate, music and much more. Many clubs will also contain an academic focus that will qualify them as Targeted Services classes and that will allow students to improve vital academic skills while enrolled in the club. Clubs will be run by a combination of licensed teachers, paraprofessionals, outside vendors and student leaders from within ISD 622.

To improve the efficiency of our bus routes, please complete this survey regarding your student's transportation needs for next school year, 2024-25.

Please submit a separate response for each student in your household. Once the form has been submitted, it will prompt you to fill out the form again for another student.

Minnesota has identified cases of measles in children who recently returned to the U.S. after traveling internationally. The decline in measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine coverage, coupled with the increase in measles disease nationally and internationally, puts Minnesota at risk of additional measles cases and a measles outbreak.
