Appleton Echo
Summer Term 2, Week 4
A word from Mr Broom
What a week! I thought last week was exciting but this week topped it quite easily.
Thank you to everyone who supported school with the Bridlington trip. Mr Snowden was right in assembly this morning when he commented on the wonderful attitudes and behaviour of all our children on the beach. A true demonstration of our school values.
On top of that, we've had fantastic Multiplications Check results in Year 4 and every child in Year 1 achieved the phonics national benchmark for the first time in our school's history. We also had a fantastic Geography day where the children learned about many countries around the world and the different cultures present there. A super experience!
Next week is a short one as we are closed to pupils on Friday. This is so our teachers can prepare classrooms in readiness for next academic year. We've also our transition morning on Thursday, when pupils will be visiting their new classrooms for next year with their new teachers.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Confirmation of Class Teachers for September 2024
We're now in a position to confirm our class structures for next academic year. Here's the plan:
Infant Phase (Reception, Year 1 & Year 2): Mrs Watts and Miss Brough
We will be running an infant phase at Appleton next year, explained in a previous letter, where Mrs Watts and Miss Brough will lead our infant team to deliver excellent learning experiences for all children in this phase.
Year 3/4: Mrs Cato (until around November) & Mr Crump
Mrs Cato is expecting to leave us for a maternity period around November and at this time, we will welcome Mr Crump back to school, who many of you know very well.
Year 5/6: Mrs Kirkpatrick
Mrs Kirkpatrick returns to our teaching team in September, working with the year groups she knows very well.
Mr Snowden:
Mr Snowden will take up the role of Deputy Headteacher in September and will teach across both Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 throughout the week. His mathematical expertise will certainly build on the excellent progress we have already seen this year.
This Week in School
Rocking Apples Rock the Appleton Festival
Last Saturday was the inaugural Appleton Village Fair, held on school grounds. It was an incredibly popular event with many of our families attending. One of the highlights of the show was the wonderful performance of the Rocking Apples, our School Band. They were amazing!

Car Convos!
Talk is really important for all learners in school and we know that our children are exposed to lots of exciting learning opportunities, both at home and at school. To help develop speaking and listening skills and knowledge of the wider world, we're introducing Car Convos! A topic that we share in the newsletter on a Friday, that families can discuss in the car on their travels. We'll then pick this up after the weekend.
This week's Car Convo centres around Pride and what this means.

'What does the word 'Pride' mean and why do we need to know about it'
