Family Newsletter
Cleveland STEM High School
September 13, 2024
Hello Cleveland families,
As we wrap up our first full week of school, I'm mindful of the range of emotions and experiences in our community. Many continue to mourn the loss of a dear friend and student while learning to settle into the new rhythms of this year. Many are anxious about the release of the Well-Resourced Schools Plan, bracing for difficult decisions ahead. And many are thankful for the start of new classes and the opportunity to work with new teachers and classmates.
The emotions of the year will continue to ebb and flow. One of our school's core values and beliefs is in the importance of community: we want all of our students to feel like they belong to a community that anchors them through the year.
This week, we are excited to hold our first schoolwide club fair on Wednesday. This will be a great opportunity for students to get connected, build friendships, and have fun. Please encourage your student to take advantage of the opportunity and join one of our many student clubs at Cleveland!
Finally, for any student leader with an idea to promote community and belonging at Cleveland: we will fund your project. So many of our students came up with amazing projects and events last year that we increased our funding so that more student-led, community building projects can be launched this year. We can't see what our students come up with!
We hope you and your family have a safe, restful, and restorative weekend.

Bridging Cultural Gaps - East African Students Groups
We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Bridging Cultural Gaps. BCG is an active organization in the community, providing mentorship, support groups, and inspiring BIPOC students to pursue careers in technology. BCG will soon launch an East African Students Group at Cleveland. We strongly encourage East African students to get connected to this great opportunity!
For grieving students
As many of you know, we are grieving the loss of a beloved student in the Cleveland community. The Cleveland community is invited to pay our respects on Monday, from 9:30 - 2:00, at Columbia Funeral Home, come at any time and stay as long as we'd like. All visitors are encouraged to wear pink.
If your student would like to attend, please contact Attendance Specialist Ms. Zarco at leperezzarco@seattleschools.org, and she will excuse the absence.
For students impacted by this loss, we will have a grief and loss support group and a drop-in art therapy space that will be staff by a licensed clinician. We will notify impacted students of these options directly, but if you believe your student would benefit, please have them stop by the counseling office in Building 2.
Picture retakes on October 16th
Our picture retake day will take place on October 16th from 10:00 - 2:00 pm in Room 1201. Students who were not here for picture day can stop by to get their picture taken.
