Madison’s library learning center has added a new area for students called the GetFIT LAB (Future of Instruction and Technology). Mrs. Graham works with the teachers to create curricular challenges for the students to solve. Students are encouraged to think critically and creatively, to take risks, and to learn from their mistakes. There are no wrong answers in this space. Albert Einstein stated, “A person who never made a mistake, never tried anything new.”

After working in the GetFIT lab, a third grader said, “I like that we can build what we want and there are all kinds of different materials to use.” Another student stated, “I learn what will work and what won’t. There are no limits and you never know what you are going to come across.”

A third grade teacher said, “The lab has generated so much enthusiasm for learning and collaboration. The children return from the Lab describing in detail everything they learned and created. I think it is so valuable to have a place where they feel free to create and make mistakes. The Lab teaches them that mistakes are an important part of learning. I love this!”

Another addition is the STEAM room (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math), which contains materials to help students complete their challenge. We are looking for donations for our STEAM room. Examples of items include:

Cover Contest - The results are in for the annual yearbook cover contest! Thank you to all the 5th grade students that participated in this year's contest. The top five entries were submitted by Rebecca Buttell, Madelyn Doherty, Allison Gochee, Colin Jamen and Alyvia Klotz. Colin Jamen is the winner. His artwork will be featured on the cover of the this year's Madison Paw Prints . Colin also will receive a free copy of the yearbook. Congratulations to Colin! Thank you to all the students, teachers, staff, and faculty who voted.

Orders - You can still place an order for the 2015-2016 Madison Paw Prints. A yearbook costs $17 and will be delivered to the student before the end of the school year. All yearbooks must be prepaid by April 30. If you pay after April 30, shipping charges will apply and the yearbook will be sent directly to your home.

Custom Pages - TreeRing offers a custom yearbook option. You can personally create two pages with photos that you upload. Please be sure to upload your personal photos to a private folder under your account, otherwise, the Madison community has the ability to view your photos on TreeRing. These custom pages will take the place of two pages that will appear in non-custom books, the Lunch & Recess collage page and a compilation page of various Madison events. If you opt to include custom pages, the deadline to complete these pages and be print ready is April 8.

All School Photo - Please mark your calendars for the All School Photo scheduled for Tues., April 5 at 2:30 p.m. More information on design will be forthcoming.

Mrs. Valerie Fraser is in her 19th year at Madison. She currently teaches 4th grade, but has also taught 5th grade. Twice, when moving from 4th to 5th grade, she looped with her kids and kept 100% of her students for that two-year period. She fondly remembers those years because she formed deep connections with her students.

Mrs. Fraser graduated from The University of Illinois and knew she wanted to be a primary school teacher. Before coming to Madison, she subbed, aided, taught preschool and 6th grade. She enjoys hearing from former students who are now in middle school, high school, college and beyond. It is especially heartwarming when former students become teachers here at Madison; Mrs. Molly Karlsson is a former student.

She tries to instill a sense of personal responsibility in her students as she prepares them for their careers beyond elementary school. In her class, students are held accountable for managing their time, being responsible for themselves, completing assignments, and keeping a binder organized.

In her free time, Mrs. Fraser loves to spend time with her family and friends at their cabin in northern Wisconsin. She enjoys all outdoor activities: jet-skiing, tubing, quadding, and fishing. She is an avid fisherwoman and enjoys lake fishing. Her biggest catch to date is a 42 inch muskie.

Early in her career, Mrs. Lisa Feeley spent time working at the Board of Trade utilizing her undergraduate degree in Agriculture Business and Economics. She decided to leave that career, earned a Masters degree in Education, and became a teacher. Her first experience was in a self-contained special needs classroom with 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders at Emerson. In 1994 Mrs. Feeley came to Madison where she has taught both 3rd and 4th grades, spending the majority of that time in 3rd grade. She loves the kids and meeting all the families. She tells children to always do their best, and if they know they’ve done their best, then you can’t expect more. She instills intrinsic motivation as the driving factor and pride in work.

“Back in the day” when you could keep animals in school, Mrs. Feeley’s class had a class pet - a bunny named Easter. The bunny came and went and hopped around the classroom. All the kids loved that and she did, too.

Her favorite subject to teach - a little bit to her own surprise because she didn’t love it as a student herself - is math. She likes discovering new ways to present the information.

She enjoys exercising in the morning and she can be found swimming laps before school. Mrs. Feeley also likes attending her kids’ sporting events. When she is able, she and the family like to get away to Michigan and spend time in their second home there.

Are you tracking your fitness? Earn a FREE weekday pass to Raging Waves Waterpark in Yorkville this summer in just three easy steps. Madison students grade K-5 can keep track of exercise on the fitness logs that were sent home. Initial each circle/box on the fitness log for every 30 minutes you exercise. After you have finished the path, turn in your completed log to your teacher by April 13. You will get your FREE Raging Waves weekday pass from your teacher before the end of May. Ordering

There are three ways to place a fundraising order:

1. Via Schwan’s Cares. https://www.schwans-cares.com/campaigns/26158-madison-elementary-school-pta (1) choose “Buy Now” to purchase an eGift Card (online only; limit 1 per customer, per campaign) OR (2) choose “Shop Now” to place a food order from Schwan’s. You can support at the campaign level or at an individual fundraiser level.
2. By Phone. Place your order via toll free number 1-855-870-7208. Make sure to provide our Campaign ID,26158, or “Madison Elementary” when ordering by phone.
3. Via Schwans.com. During checkout simply type in our Campaign ID, 26158, to contribute to our fundraiser.

Delivery

For new customers, you will choose your delivery date and time during checkout.

For existing Schwan’s customers, you will need to follow one of the three ordering steps above to create your fundraising affiliation and have your order contribute to the campaign. Your order will be delivered on your existing scheduled route day.

Form of payment is required when placing fundraising orders, but you can change payment at the door to a preferred method of payment (Check, Cash, EBT, or Credit and Debit Card are accepted). If you are not home during the time of delivery, your items will be left in a protected freezer bag at no cost to you.

Madison basketball is looking for a parent coordinator for the 2016-17 season. The parent coordinator is responsible for coordinating communication between the Wheaton Park District, the school, and the coaches. Community Unit School District 200, is hosting our 6th Annual Special Education Resource Fair. The event will be targeting all individuals, parents, family members, and professionals who care for loved ones of any age with special needs in our community.

The event will be occurring Thurs., Mar. 10 from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. This year families will be arriving at 6 p.m. to attend an informational speaker on topics pertaining to government benefits, special need trusts and guardianship, then will be provided an opportunity to gain information about local community agencies, services, and resources. Families are welcome to attend with their loved ones at Hubble Middle School (3S.600 Herrick Road, Warrenville, 60555) Door #1.

Lost and Found is now located in the main office. There are many very nice clothing items, lunch boxes and light weight coats. As the weather becomes colder it fills with many more wonderful articles. Please stop by and check it out or encourage your child to look for missing items.

All items will be donated to Goodwill over Spring Break if not claimed.

The PTA offers both daytime and evening meetings to accommodate all of our members.

The noon meetings will be held in the music room and our evening meetings will be held in the LLC. Hope to see you there!
