Nurse Updates
A message from Nurse Ann
It is imperative that we are aware of any health issues. Please update the school nurse for any new or important medical information. Our immunization compliance is almost 100%, continue to forward documentation to the nurse.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

Volunteer
If you are interested in becoming a PGCPS cleared volunteer, Livescan will be coming out to the school on Saturday, September 14, 2024 starting at 8:30am to provide fingerprinting to registered participants that just need fingerprints done. It will be on a first come first serve basis, signup will follow for 20 open slots only.

Hello Kindergarten Families:
Welcome to a great school year.
Our scholars are reviewing our routines and expectations daily, and continue to talk with your scholars about them.
ELA: We will work on the letter “Mm” next week and our sight words for the week are: I, am, the.
Social Studies:Our topic will be learning and working together.
Math: We will work numbers 1,2,3.
Science: We will work on push and pull.

September 10, 2024 6-8 in person Back to School Night
Please work on getting background clearance/fingerprinting and watch safe school videos to be cleared for volunteering/chaperoning in kindergarten. Go to the PGCPS website and follow the steps.
*Friendly reminder: If your scholar is not feeling well, please keep them home. They should not be in school with a fever,a constant runny nose, or a cough that disrupts their ability to focus and concentrate on their lessons.

This week, our scholars were becoming accumulated with all things first grade! We practiced routines, procedures, and expectations during this first week.

Your scholar is embarking on an exciting second-grade journey and we are honored to be part of this crucial stage in their education. Our dedicated second-grade team is committed to offering unwavering support, guidance, and inspiration as your child continues to grow and learn. Meet our second-grade team:
Mrs. Glasper
Education has always been a passion of mine, and I am honored to bring my experiences to the classroom. I hold a Bachelor's of Arts Degree from Prairie View A&M University and I am proud to be entering my seventh year here at CMIT North Elementary. I spent twelve years as the Director of Glasper Family Childcare, where I had the privilege of nurturing and guiding young minds. As an educator, my goal is to foster active learning in every aspect of my students' lives. I believe that education goes beyond textbooks and I am committed to creating an environment where curiosity is embraced, questions are encouraged, and growth is celebrated. "Lastly, I take pride in being the author of two books, including an engaging children's book as well as an insightful guided journal designed to inspire reflection and personal growth."
Ms. Hutchins
This is my twenty first-year in Prince George's County Public Schools. I am so happy to be a part of this wonderful school, Chesapeake Math and IT Elementary. I graduated with my B.A. in Elementary Education from Northern Kentucky University and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from McDaniel College. I enjoy my family, reading, and hiking. I am looking forward to a great year.

I grew up in Glenarden, Md. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Business from University of Potomac. I am a second year educator here at CMIT North Elementary. I enjoy football, photography, and watching Hallmark movies.
Ms. Reid
This is my seventh year at CMIT Elementary School. I have a deep
passion for teaching and making a positive impact on children’s lives. I
love to see children grow physically, academically, and emotionally.
Teaching and creating an environment conducive for learning is one of
my main goals. I have two lovely daughters, Mary and Hannah. My
hobbies are cooking, reading, and listening to jazz music.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. We are eager to watch them learn, grow, and achieve great things in the second grade.

Mr. Chang: Hi, I am Mr. Chang. This year I will be teaching Math, Science, and Health. This will be my fifth year teaching at CMIT. I’m currently working on my Master's degree in STEM education at UMBC. I play ultimate frisbee, spend too much time indoor rock climbing, and play guitar for my church. Let's work together to have an awesome school year!
Ms. Kelley: Hello Everyone, My name is Jazzminn Kelley. I am a third grade Reading/Social Studies teacher. I have been teaching at CMIT elementary for six years now. I am currently finishing up courses at Grand Canyon University to earn my Master's degree in Elementary Education. I enjoy reading, watching my favorite TV shows, and spending time with family and friends. I am super excited about teaching third grade this year, I can’t wait to work with our scholars!
Mrs. Richardson: Welcome back! I am Mrs. Richardson and this will be my eleventh year teaching at CMIT. This will be my fifth year teaching third grade Math, Science, and Health! I graduated with my B.A. in Elementary Education from Notre Dame of Maryland University and I hold a Master's degree in Administration and Supervision from Notre Dame of Maryland University. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, creating digital designs/products, shopping, and traveling. I am looking forward to a great school year!
Mrs. Lambert: Hi there! I’m Mrs. Lambert This will be my seventh year teaching at CMIT and my second year teaching third grade Reading and Social Studies. I graduated with my B.A. in Elementary Education from Stevenson University. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, catching up on my favorite shows, and bowling. I am looking forward to working with you all this year!
In Reading this week, students will explore and analyze the components of a Traditional Tale Grandma and the Great Gourd. The skill for this week is VC/CV vowel patterns.
In Social Studies, students will continue Chapter 1: Lesson 1 Land and Water.
This week in Math, believe it or not we are finishing up our first topic on multiplication and division! Scholars have been using repeated addition to show multiplication and repeated subtraction to show division. Students will have an opportunity to complete an extra credit assignment for the test at the end of the week.
In Science, we've started our unit on motion and forces. Students have been exploring ways that we describe and measure the way objects move.
Fourth Grade
Weekly News!
Mr. Trippe: This is my eleventh year teaching at CMIT, and I'm more excited than ever to be back. I've loved getting to know my students and their families over the years, and I'm looking forward to continuing to build relationships and help them learn and grow. This will be my second year teaching fourth grade and I couldn't be more excited! I've always loved math and science, and I can't wait to share my passion with my students. I'm also passionate about creating a safe and supportive learning environment where everyone feels welcome and respected. I believe that all students can learn, and I'm committed to providing them with the best possible education. I have a lot of fun activities planned, and I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together!
Mrs. Cooper: I'm so excited to have the opportunity to guide your child through this exciting educational journey and can't wait to see what adventures we'll have this year!
I graduated from UMBC and have been teaching for 8 years, and this will be my 4th year teaching 4th grade. I absolutely love it! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our one-year-old baby, and exploring new places. My favorite color is any kind of purple and my favorite animal is a red panda!
In my classroom, you can expect a positive and supportive learning environment where we'll collaborate, share ideas, and have lots of fun with engaging activities and projects. I'm a strong believer in goal setting and working together to achieve those goals. I believe that all students can learn and succeed, and I'm dedicated to creating a classroom where everyone feels safe, supported, and challenged. I'm eager to see what you all accomplish this year!
I'm excited to get to know each of you this year and I'm looking forward to an awesome year filled with growth, discovery, and adventure.
Ms. Daniel: This will be my 14th year as a classroom teacher. I am looking forward to growing lifelong readers and writers within my classroom. I am a candidate this year to attain National Board Certification in Literacy and I am excited to begin this journey. Reading & Writing is one of my passions and I look forward to sharing that with my scholars. One of my goals this year is to share with students the many possibilities that can be found in books. In my spare time, I enjoy to travel to new places, read, and spend time with family/friends. I am looking forward to having a great time with your scholars this year.
Mr. Williams: This is my 6th year teaching math, science, and health at CMIT but my 16th year in education.I grew up in New York State and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business. I worked as an outside salesman and then did a career change to teaching after earning my Master's in teaching from UMBC. I am involved in a 5 year professional development program sponsored by the National Science Foundation to incorporate STEM Makerspaces and culturally relevant teaching into the classroom. I run the after school Maker Space Club where students learn to use 3D printers, lasers, and woodworking tools.
We have been getting into the groove of things here in 4th grade!! We have dived into our curriculum and mastering routines. We look forward to seeing the great work that students will be producing this year.
Next week in Reading, students will use text evidence to support thinking in an autobiography. Students will also take Unit 1 Week 1 Progress Check. In Social Studies, students will know that weather and climate varies across the five regions. In Math, students will use place value to round multi-digit numbers. In Science, students will explain what energy is and describe some forms of energy. Students will also explain how a moving object’s speed and energy are related.

Welcome back scholars! The 5th grade team welcomes you to an extraordinary school year full of learning and adventure! We are glad you have made it to the final year of your elementary path. We will embark upon a fascinating year of development and growth with an outpour of fun filled activities and robust learning! Learning for the upcoming week:
ELA
Students will be introduced to the MyView reading Curriculum. We will discuss reading skills that will be used during the school year. Listening Comprehension and group discussion will be performed to evaluate student understanding and development. Students will be introduced to the vocabulary list which will be assessed on Friday. They will be given an overall preview of the expectations as a 5th grader. Let's Go Tigers!!

-This week in math, students will use patterns and the properties of multiplication to calculate a product when multiplying by a power of 10. Students will be taught the expected rules and procedures for their new class. In science this week, students should be able to identify materials based on their properties.

Social Studies
Students will be introduced to the curriculum and will begin their journey on the Native Americans and their journey to the Americas. Students will review previous knowledge that was taught in 4th grade and will migrate the information into the 5th grade focus. There will be classroom discussion and a preview of the reading skills that will be expected for this semester. We will preview a video to show the life of Native Americans when they arrived in the Americas. We will also delve into listening comprehension to make learning connections through reading and question/answer sessions. You got this Tigers! Let's goooooo!

School Counseling Program Highlights for the School Year:
Themes and Communication: The School Counseling Program theme of the year is CMITNES - Kindness Tames Bulldozers. We believe that fostering kindness and empathy can transform our school community. To keep informed and engaged, keep a lookout for the newsletter featuring the topic of each lesson, upcoming events, and tips for supporting your child’s growth at home.
Counselor’s Corner: There will be some exciting changes to the Counselor’s Corner, making it more interactive and resource-rich for both students and parents. Stay tuned for updates on these new features.
Referrals and Access: Teachers and parents will continue to have access to submit referrals through the Counselor’s Corner.
Parent Workshops: We will be hosting parent workshops/presentations at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to address various topics related to your child’s development and well-being. These sessions will offer valuable insights and practical strategies for supporting your child.
Classroom Lessons: I will be conducting lessons each month, ensuring that every student receives consistent and comprehensive guidance throughout the year.
