Principal's Message
Dear Garden Road Families,
This week at Garden Road, we held participated in the Great California Shakeout on Thursday! Students practiced "Drop, Cover and Hold." After evacuating to the field, our school held its first Disaster Drill of the year. We will be reflecting as a staff on how we can improve our processes to ensure we keep everyone safe in the event of a disaster.
School Safety Patrol Lunch
On Monday, October 21, our school safety patrol will be treated to lunch with a police officer to reward them for their hard work keeping our families safe at our crosswalk! If you see a patrol car at our school on Monday, it will be for the safety patrol lunch!
Boo Fest Trunk or Treat
Please sign up to host a trunk or plan to come to Garden Road to trunk or treat with us on Friday, October 25, starting at 5 pm!
Red Ribbon Week October 21 through October 25
Calling all first responders and military!!
GRES will be recognizing Red Ribbon Week from October 21-25th. If you are a first responder or military service person or know someone who is, please mark your calendar for Monday, October 21st. Plan to meet out front of GRES in uniform at 7:20 for brief instructions.
GRES students love to see all of the heroes in our school community, so we hope that you help us continue this special GRES tradition. On behalf of GRES PTA, thank you for serving and protecting our local community and beyond.

Library News
We celebrated Digital Citizenship week in the library.
From phones and tablets to streaming movies and YouTube, tech and media are everywhere. Kids love easy access to shows, games, and information. Parents and caregivers love that kids can learn on the go (and stay busy when dinner's cooking). But it's easy to overdo it when the phone never stops pinging and the next episode plays automatically. Families can keep media and tech use in check by following a few simple practices.
Create screen-free times and zones. Help kids take breaks from tech by limiting screen time in bedrooms, during study time, or at the dinner table.
Try parental controls. Set content limits that make sense for your family. Alongside conversations about healthy media habits, use features such as content filtering, privacy settings, and time limits offered by the apps and platforms your family uses to help manage access and exposure to media.
Establish clear family rules. Decide together what kind of media and tech is OK -- and when it's OK to use it. A family media plan can help get everyone on the same page.
Watch and play together. Choose quality, age-appropriate media to enjoy with your kids. Visit commonsensemedia.org to find shows, games, and more.
Help kids identify healthy behaviors. Practice talking about physical and emotional feelings during screen and non-screen activities.
