Weekly Newsletter

Good evening Families,
I wanted to take a moment to emphasize the importance of regular school attendance and share some insights into how it directly impacts your child’s learning and overall success.
As a school, we understand that family trips and special occasions hold great value. However, absences outside of our scheduled breaks can significantly affect a child’s education. Research shows that:
- Students who miss just 10% of the school year (about 18 days) are at higher risk of falling behind academically.
- Chronic absenteeism in elementary school can lower achievement in math and reading by as much as a grade level.
- Students with consistent attendance are more likely to develop essential social and problem-solving skills and are better prepared for middle and high school.
While our teachers do their best to help students catch up, missed instruction and classroom interactions are difficult to replicate. Every lesson is part of a carefully designed sequence that supports your child’s growth and development.
We are proud of the strong partnership we have with our families at Morris Elementary, and we ask for your continued support in prioritizing attendance during the school year. Thank you for helping us give your child the best foundation for success. Together, we can ensure every student at Morris Elementary is set up for a bright future.
Trendy Tiger Closet
Hello Morris Families,
As we approach the winter season we wanted to remind families of the winter clothing resources available in our community closet, The Trendy Tiger. If there is something specific you or a family member might need for winter clothing, please feel free to reach out to us privately and we will do our best to make that happen!
We are still gladly accepting donations of clothing items and would greatly appreciate items such as girls pants/ leggings sizes 7-10 and any size active wear such as plain t-shirts and shorts.
With gratitude,
Ms Beth and Mrs. Zaretsky
Merriest Main Street Event
Below is a photograph taken on Friday morning. Mrs. Soules, Ms. Gerney, and I are so proud of her students, who braved the cold temperatures to support one of their classmates. We are thrilled to share a lovely note from Margit, a representative from the Red Lion Inn, regarding Ms. Gerney’s class during their visit for The Today Show’s "Merriest Main Street" segment. Margit wrote, "You certainly are to be commended as a teacher—your students were SO well-behaved and respectful!" We are incredibly proud of Ms. Gerney and her students for representing Morris Elementary with such poise and enthusiasm. Thank you to everyone who supported this special event!

Power of Presence Templates:
The Department’s "Power of Presence" initiative is celebrating all the reasons people attend school! The Department invites everyone — students from pre-K to adult, families, school staff, and educators — to submit a creative piece such as artwork, music, photography, video, or writing. To make it easier to get the community involved, DESE created an optional template for elementary school students and a flyer for middle school, high school and adult learners.
Interested individuals should complete the entry form (including the Media Agreement) and attach their creative piece to the form by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, December 20. One entry will be selected to be featured in a special commercial this spring!
I encourage families to participate in the Power of Presence Template. If you choose to participate, please let me know. Thank you!
