JJHS Update
February 11, 2024
Black History Month
During National Black History Month, we celebrate the legacy of Black Americans whose power to lead, to overcome, and to expand the meaning and practice of American democracy has helped our Nation become a more fair and just society. This country was established upon the profound but simple idea that all people are created equal and should be treated equally throughout their lives. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted all people to NOT be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. Today and every day we extend dignity to all and remember ALL individuals are created equally and should be treated fairly and justly.
5Essentials Parent Survey
We would like your input and feedback! To help guide our school improvement efforts, please take the 5Essentials Survey to provide us with your anonymous feedback. As a parent, your voice is essential to help us guide our school improvement process at JJHS. We will also administer this survey to all of our students in the near future. The purpose of this online survey is to understand parent/guardian perceptions in the areas of connectedness, satisfaction, interaction, involvement, and quality.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20% of parents take the survey. If you have students attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school. All survey responses will be kept confidential.
To take this short survey:
- Visit Parent Survey Illinois 5Essentials: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
- Select “DuPage” as the County.
- Type the school's name into the school field and then select your school.
Thank you in advance for your participation to support our schools' continuous improvement process!
5Essentials Student Survey
Students in fourth through twelfth grade will have an opportunity to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey as mandated by the Illinois State Board of Education. The district is required to complete the administration of this survey by March 29, 2024. The student form of the Illinois 5Essentials Survey focuses on perceptions regarding the supportiveness of the school environment and ambitiousness of instruction. The district and schools use information from this survey to enhance our understanding of the student experience in Naperville 203.
Individual student responses to this survey remain confidential; aggregate results will be published online in conjunction with the annual Illinois Report Card in the fall of 2024. The survey takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete and will be administered online. If you would like your student to not participate, please complete and return the linked PDF to your school’s main office. (or the download button below)
Jefferson students will take this in their science classes on the following dates:
6th Grade: 2/15
7th Grade: 2/14
8th Grade: 2/23
Thank you for your continued support and participation toward improving our schools!

Health Office News
ORAL HEALTH = GOOD OVERALL HEALTH
Parents play an important role in guiding kids’ good oral hygiene habits that help keep the rest of their body healthy too. Make it a habit to practice good oral hygiene.
Brush twice daily for 2 minutes and floss.
Drink water out of the tap (fluorinated to help strengthen and protect teeth)
Visit your dentist every 6 months for a professional cleaning, exam and x-rays.
Limit intake of sugar-filled sodas, sweetened fruit and sport drinks and other unhealthy snacks which cause tooth decay and have little nutritional value.
Your child’s first dental visit should be at 1-year-old.
To help promote good oral health, all 6th graders are required to have a Dental Exam. All forms are due to the Health Office by May 15th.
