Principal Message
Good Afternoon, OMS Families,
We officially made it through the 11th day of school this week on Friday the 13th! Our students continue to practice our routines and learn our expectations. Thank you to those of you that were able to attend Curriculum Night last night! In case you missed it, we have included our principal video and staff slideshow below.
Principal Recording - Hoot & Owl Tickets, Behavior Matrix, Think it Throughs
Enjoy the weekend,
Erin, Julia, and the OMS Staff
Front Plaza Line Up - K3, K4, K5 and 1st grade
We are going to make a few adjustments to lining up on the front plaza. Please see the photos below. We hope this will continue to help improve our morning arrival routine! Moving forward K3, K4, and K5 will each line up on their own line (or crack in the sidewalk). All 1st graders will line up in two long lines, not determined by class, just pick the shortest line. *K3, K4, K5 and all first graders walk down the same hallway where staff members are available to help them find their classes.

High Five Fridays
We are excited to once again partner with Hersey High School and the Arlington Heights Police Department for High Five Friday's. On Friday, September 20th and Friday, October 18th we will be joined by an athletic group and/or club to welcome our students to school. On these days all students will line up on the blacktop like we did for the first day of school. Two classes at a time will walk through a "tunnel" and enter through the main office doors. For students who are not comfortable participating we will have OMS staff members greeting them as they enter through door 7. Please watch the video below for a glimpse into a High Five Friday!
Science Club
Science Club is back with three sessions, meeting on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, October 1 through November 20.
We’re offering hands-on science adventures for students in grades two through five; first grade students may participate if anv older sibling is enrolled in Science Club AND an adult can volunteer to help everyday that the first grade student attends.
We meet from 3:35 until 4:45 PM in the LMC.
Session 1: Maps and Compasses (three weeks)
Go on a compass treasure hunt in Greens Park, explore the world in a compass
quest, and build a three dimensional topical map.
Session 2: Qualitative Chemistry - Mystery Powders (three weeks)
Discover how various substances behave chemically and physically, then use what
you’ve learned to figure out which substances are included in various mixtures.
Session 3: Fun With Physics (two weeks)
We’ll pose two building challenges that will test your imagination and engineering
skills.
Want to join in the fun? Then complete and return the registration form as soon as possible. Sessions can fill up very quickly. The number of students per session is dependent on the number of adult volunteers. To ensure that we’re able to provide a safe and enjoyable activity at least two
adults will be present each day. Any days that do not have at least one adult volunteer will be cancelled. Please consider signing up to help on one or more days as your schedule allows.
Questions? Please contact Cynthia House at chouse@sd25.org.
We would like to clarify multilingual night vs. multicultural night as there may be some confusion. We would love to see you at both!
Multilingual night is an INFORMAL gathering in the OMS commons. Families often bring food to share and spend time getting to know one another.
Multicultural night and our 3rd Grade Concert is one of our BIG events of the year. This is an evening where families sign up to "host" a classroom highlighting their culture or country of origin. This evening is scheduled for Thursday, November 14th.
