Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary
May 2024
A Note from the Principal's Desk
Happy end of the school year, GBR families! Don't forget the Springo celebration on May 2nd!
So what's next? Summer plans.
Here are some things you should consider as the school year comes to a close, with the last day being May 16th:
1. Be sure to register for school year 2024-25. That's one of those things we often look past, until August. How does one register for 2024-25? Complete the annual update online linked here.
2. The public library is a great place to stop in the summer. Any amount of reading learners do during the summer is beneficial, but to do it consistently may put them ahead of the curve. Summer reading slide effects countless learners every fall. Keep it at arms length by having learners crack a book. Pro tip: set aside a family reading time (even 20 minutes will help enormously!).
3. For our students: Learners, get outside! I know screens of all kinds can be prevalent in the summer. One screen you should use often is your screen door. Open it and be active!
It's been a tremendous, unforgettable year. We at Gertie Belle wish our families nothing but the best summer ever. The staff at GBR look forward to seeing you all again in August (after we finish the last couple of weeks) and I look forward to seeing all the 5th graders again next year at MMS!

County Fair Saver Card Fundraiser Update
Thank you to all who participated in this last County Fair Saver Card Contest. We collected over 3,550 completed cards at .55 cents per card. That earned our PTA $1,952.50 to be put toward our GBR playground and upkeep. Without everyone's help in saving stamps and cards, this would not be possible. Please save your cards throughout the Summer as we will most likely look at doing another fundraiser in the Fall. Again, thank you from the GBR PTA!!
GBR 5th Grade Recognition
Come celebrate this year's 5th graders as they are recognized for their elementary school accomplishments and embark on their new journey as middle schoolers!

Welcome Aboard!
Please give a warm welcome to the following teachers who will be joining our GBR family in the 2024-2025 school year!
Mrs. Allison Pierson - Principal
Mrs. Allison Pierson joins us from Mitchell Middle School. During her time at MMS, Mrs. Pierson taught 7th grade English/Language Arts while also advising various activities. Before embarking on her teaching career, Mrs. Pierson obtained her bachelor’s degree in English Education from Dakota Wesleyan University. While teaching, she pursued further education, earning two master’s degrees: one in Curriculum and Instruction from Mount Marty University and another in Educational Administration from Dakota Wesleyan University. Mrs. Pierson is excited to join Gertie Belle Rogers due to its outstanding staff and students, diverse educational opportunities, and the school's positive, uplifting atmosphere.
Beyond her professional life, Mrs. Pierson resides with her husband, Dylanger, and their three-year-old son, Steele. As a family, they enjoy attending Kernel sporting events, cheering on their favorite teams (Go Cowboys and Twins!), and spending time together as a family.
Miss Jacey Puetz - 4th Grade
Miss Puetz is a GBR and Mitchell Alumni. After graduating in 2020, she went to SDSU for Early Childhood Education before coming back home to attend Dakota Wesleyan University. She completed both practicums and her student teaching in the Mitchell School District as well as being a substitute. In December, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Currently, Miss Puetz is a long- term sub at Gertie Belle Rogers. Her passion lies in the classroom and giving back to the community that has given so much to her. Outside of the classroom, she coaches 7th grade and club volleyball. She is so excited to be a Golden Arrow and teach 4th grade this upcoming school year!!
Miss Brooklyn Boetel - 1st Grade
Brooklyn is a native of Huron, SD and graduated from Huron High School. She attended Dakota Wesleyan University and will graduate in May with a degree in Elementary Education.
Brooklyn has a passion for working with kids and has accumulated valuable experience in previous childcare roles at preschool, daycare, and being the director at a summer day camp. Brooklyn strives to create a community for kids that nurtures growth in a positive, fun environment.
Brooklyn is the daughter of Scott and Angie Boetel, and has a younger brother, Carter. She recently became and engaged and will be married next summer! She loves spending time with her family and friends, traveling, running, hiking, shopping, doing puzzles, and being involved in her community.
Brooklyn is so excited to be joining Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary as a 1st grade teacher!
Miss Rachel Rust - 3rd Grade
Rachel, originally from Nebraska, will be joining our team as a 3rd-grade teacher. She has two older siblings and will be graduating from Dakota State University this month with a degree in Elementary Education, along with minors in Reading and Educational Technology. Rachel's passions include reading and spending quality time with her family and friends. Her ultimate goal is to ensure that every student entering her classroom feels confident and valued. Rachel is eagerly looking forward to beginning her teaching journey.
Miss Amy Uher - 3rd Grade
Miss Uher grew up in Mitchell and after graduating in 2020, she got her Elementary Education degree at Dakota State University in Madison, SD. She has coached many young athletes in volleyball and is dedicated to helping students develop every aspect of themselves through extracurricular activities and their education. Outside of the classroom, Miss Uher enjoys outdoor activities, sports, baking, reading, and photography. She is excited to teach 3rd grade here at GBR this next school year!
Mrs. Courtney Moody - ELL
As a former Spanish teacher, Courtney has always been passionate about language education and fostering multicultural understanding. Now, as she prepares to move back to Mitchell with her family, she is thrilled to support English Language Learners (ELL) in their educational journey. She believes that her experience in teaching Spanish will provide her with valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by ELL students. She is excited to bring knowledge, empathy, and enthusiasm to Gertie Belle Roger’s and hopes to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where all
students can thrive and succeed. She is very excited for this new chapter and to be back in her hometown supporting learners in the community.
