Schoolwide Project Based Learning
All students participated in the shoebox challenge of designing a dream room of any room in a house. They used scale model to design all features of the room.
Envirothon Team in Top of State
The River Otters , one of our several Envirothon teams, placed in the Top 5 in the state competition. SMS had the highest public scoring team in the state.
Roller Coaster Challenge
Students worked in teams to design a roller coaster made completely of low cost/no cost materials. Roller coasters were deemed successful if a marble could complete the entire track without stopping. Bonus points were given for loops and spirals.
STEAM CLUBS are a Student Favorite
ALL students are members of a STEAM club of their choice. Choices range from popsicle art to counted cross stich, to aerobic dance, to bucket drumming, to board games and so much more.
Hands on Learning
Students work with their lab partners to learn about the properties of water.
Candyland Math
Students visit 'Candyland' to complete in standards based thematic math challenges in a fun and different learning environment.
Students already in the SMS attendance zone or who currently attend HNSA do not need to apply.
