SCHOOL COUNSELING WELCOMES ALL STUDENTS TO THE 24-25 SCHOOL YEAR
On Monday, August 26, the School Counseling Department presented an informative video during RAM TIME to help students become more familiar with the counseling staff. The video introduced each school counselor by name and face, providing students with a better understanding of who their counselor is and what they do. Additionally, it explained the various ways students can reach out to their counselors for support, whether they have academic concerns, personal issues, or college and career questions. The video emphasized the importance of building a relationship with their counselor and encouraged students to take advantage of the resources available to them throughout the school year. Click here to view the Counselor’s Welcome Video.
Seniors Meetings
On Monday, August 26, the School Counseling office presented a video during RAM TIME about post-secondary planning. Following this, there was a follow-up presentation during collaboration time on Wednesday, August 28, and Thursday, August 29. These sessions provided further information and guidance to assist students in navigating their post-secondary options. Students are expected to schedule a senior meeting with their counselor. During these meetings, we will review graduation requirements and discuss various aspects of post-secondary planning. Seniors and their families received information and resources via email, including the GE School Counseling Senior Checklist.
College Representatives & Scholarship
On Monday, September 9, the School Counseling Department presented a video during RAM TIME to inform students about College Representative Visits and Scholarship opportunities. This presentation aimed to guide students through the process of connecting with college representatives to learn more about their institutions and the programs they offer. It also highlighted various scholarship resources available to students, helping them understand how to research and apply for scholarships to support their educational goals. Please feel free to view the College Rep Visit & Scholarship Info Video.
College Week
The School Counseling Department will host our 5th annual College Week the week of September 30 - October 4. Students have the opportunity to meet with representatives from dozens of colleges and universities during all lunch periods, including some of Glenbard East Students’ most popular college destinations. Senior and junior students are encouraged to sign up for additional upcoming visits by college representatives by logging into their SchooLinks accounts and clicking on “School Events”. See your school counselor for assistance in accessing your SchooLinks account.
College Night
The School Counseling Department will be hosting an in-person College Night on Wednesday, October 9, from 6:30 - 8:30PM in Rider Hall. There will also be a session held in Spanish. This is a great opportunity to learn about the college selection process, scholarships and financial aid. Hope to see you there!
College Application Support
Counselors are available to help seniors complete college applications! Please encourage your senior sign up for college application support during RAM TIME.
Transfer Orientation
Counselors welcomed 38 students to our Transfer Student Orientation on August 29th. Any students that started at Glenbard East after the first day of school were invited. Students received information on athletics, how to get involved in clubs/activities, and had an opportunity to connect with current Glenbard East students.
Financial Aid Night
Feeling lost and need help understanding the financial aid process for sending your student to college? The Glenbard East School Counseling Department will host a Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, October 16th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. There is a presentation by a financial aid officer in Rider Hall to assist parents of seniors with understanding the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid, and other aspects of applying for financial aid. Parents of students in all grade levels are welcome to attend.
Families of seniors can get help with creating their Federal Student Aid accounts that they will use in December during the opening of the 25-26 FAFSA. Technical support will be available from our school computer labs for interested families. Please contact Bryan Witte at bryan_witte@glenbard.org in the School Counseling office with any questions on this event.
THE WRITE PLACE
The Write Place is open for business! The Write Place’s mission is to promote collaborative student learning by supporting writing across all school curriculums. Tutors will aid the students throughout the writing process and help them reach their writing goals. Tutors offer questions in place of corrections, support instead of criticism, and understanding rather than evaluation.
Junior or Senior students interested in volunteering as a Write Place Tutor should visit Room 315A during their lunch or collaboration period.
Students seeking help with writing can visit the Write Place during any lunch or collaboration period.
