Sandhill E-News
Week of 12/2/2024
A Message From Mr. Johnson:
Hello Sandhill Families,
It’s been a wonderful short week here at Sandhill as we head into Fall Break. We want to remind you that there is no school on November 27th, 28th, or 29th, and we’ll see everyone back on Monday, December 2nd.
Once we return, we’ll have just three weeks until Winter Break—and I’m sure the time will fly by! Winter Break begins on Monday, December 23rd, and goes until Friday, January 3rd. School will resume on Monday, January 6th.
Next week, we’ll begin much of our Winter Benchmark Testing in Aimsweb+ or Fastbridge, depending on the grade and needs of each student. While this process aligns with Wisconsin’s new Act 20 legislation, it’s something we’ve been doing for years. Our goal is to complete all testing by Winter Break so we can use the data to adjust small groups and provide targeted support when we return in January.
Also on Monday, December 2nd, we’ll hold our Golden Stella Assembly to celebrate the positive behavior of our students over the past month.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude. I am so thankful to be part of a school community that is dedicated, supportive, and filled with care for one another. Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for partnering with us in their growth and success.
Have a wonderful Fall Break, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Bob / Mr. Johnson
School Updates
5th Grade Math Turkey Trot
Our brilliant 5th graders did a fun activity when they had a "Turkey Trot" in Ms. Dreyer's Math Class. During this Math Scavenger Hunt they got to find different math problems aligned with the standards and complete their "Trot" sheet. Students that finished the whole thing received a certificate of completion. It was a fun standards aligned activity to celebrate our upcoming break.
Recycle Project Update
As of today, November 26th, we have collected 177.09 pounds of clean, stretchy plastic! We have an update that labels do not need to be removed from the plastic. 5th graders were so happy to find this out. It makes our sorting job a lot easier. Remember, this is not a typical recycling project that takes all kinds of plastic. Some things we have had to sort out of our donations are frozen food bags, candy wrappers, chip bags, shampoo bottles, mesh or net bags, six-pack rings, and lots of dirty plastic bags. If it sounds "crinkly" it probably means it does not work for this project. Thanks to all Sandhill classrooms and families who are collecting.

WFK Updates
WFK Updates
With just FOUR weeks of school left until Winter Break, we still have lots of things going on! Please take a look below at some ways you can volunteer over these next few weeks. As always, thank you for supporting our school!
Instrument Petting Zoo - Volunteers Needed!
Ms Kettner, our wonderful music teacher, is offering the Instrument Petting Zoo again this year to give our students an opportunity to try all different types of instruments, and she is looking for volunteers! If you are willing/able to help, please check out the sign up link below. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY!!

Giving Tree 2024 - Volunteers Needed!
We are proud to be partnering with the WFK groups from Kegonsa and Fox Prairie again this year to help make the holidays special for Stoughton families in need. Giving Trees can now be found at Next Generation, Wildwood, Stoughton Floral, Level Up Fitness, and Kicks Unlimited/Stoughton's Best Afterschool & Summer Camp.
Our Giving Tree will also be up during the Shop Small Saturday event on 11/30 and Victorian Holiday Market on 12/7, from 9am-5pm both days at Public Chorus House! For those two days, we are looking for volunteers to be present and answer any questions shoppers may have!
Volunteer for the Giving Tree on 11/30 or 12/7!
Pick a tag from one of these trees and drop off the unwrapped gifts at either Next Generation during their regular business hours or at Sandhill Elementary School during school hours. Unwrapped gifts need to be dropped off by Thursday, December 12! The tags have all the information you need regarding what you are shopping for.
Finally, we will be doing a gift sorting on Friday, December 13 at Sandhill! We need donations of wrapping paper and tape and are looking for a few volunteers to help sort gifts! This is a fun and easy way to help get involved and support families in our community!
Donate gift wrap or help with gift sorting!
VOLUNTEER FOR LUNCH DUTY!
If you are looking for an easy way to help out at school and spend some time with our students, consider volunteering during lunch and/or recess duty!
