Terry Fox Run
This year we are again fundraising to support the Terry Fox Foundation in the fight against Cancer. As a school we have set a goal of $3,000. If we are able to reach $3500, Mr. Gratrix will shave his head! We will have our Terry Fox Run on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Each student brought home a fundraising form that can be used to submit donations, or you can use the link below to donate online. Please see the attached parent letter with some additional information. To donate online, go to the Terry Fox website. Search "Killam Public" to find our school fundraising page.
So far we have raised $970. All donations need to be in by Thursday, September 26th. Please make sure students are dressed for the weather that day. If you have any questions call or email the school.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Orange Shirt Day was first established as an observance in 2013, as part of an effort to promote awareness and education of the residential school system and the impact it has had on Indigenous communities for over a century.
The use of an orange shirt as a symbol was inspired by the accounts of Phyllis Jack Webstad, whose personal clothing—including a new orange shirt—was taken from her during her first day of residential schooling, and never returned. The orange shirt is thus used as a symbol of the forced assimilation of Indigenous children that the residential school system enforced.
BRSD Schools will be observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th and all BRSD schools will be closed. Our KPS students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt to school on Friday, September 27th.

Yearbook
Thank you to Caige Kennedy for doing an amazing job on last year's yearbook! There are a few extras available for purchase in the office. They are $25 and cheques can be made out to Killam Parent Advisory Society.
Student Leadership
We have a group of 7 junior high students who are excited to start a new Student Leadership group at KPS. This group will be planning school spirit days and fun activities for all students. We are always looking for new members, please let Mr. Gratrix or Mrs. Nelson know if you would like to join! Stay tuned for more information!
Student Re-Enrollment and Verification Forms
The 2024/25 Student Re-Enrollment & Verification forms (320-1) were sent out in August. Every student and parent/guardian must complete this document prior to September 30, 2024 for your Division account and access to continue to be available to you and your student during the remainder of the school year. This may include student access to ChromeBooks at school. (Included as part of this package is the Technology Acceptable Use Agreement and the FOIP Consent Notice of Activities.)
Please note that the form must be completed on a web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. The PowerSchool App does not have form capability. Your username is your Firstname.Lastname.
Every year we are required to provide Alberta Education with a signed and dated Student Verification form for each of our students. We also use the form to ensure all of the information we have regardingyour child(ren) is correct. This year we have moved to an electronic verification form for this process. In an attempt to streamline our process, the FOIP and Technology Use forms have been incorporated into the Verification form.
Absent or Late Students
Please inform the office if your student will be absent by either calling (780) 385-3690 or emailing abrodie@brsd.ab.ca. Students must check-in at the office if they are late and must check out at the office if they are leaving early for the day.
Kougar Athletics
Volleyball league games start next week with a home game against Holden. Girls game will start at 5pm. Come cheer on our teams and see our new gym floor! Please remove outdoor shoes before entering the gym so we can keep the floor in good condition!
All Junior High volleyball players will need to have their permission forms in before their game on Wednesday.
As October quickly approaches, we will be starting our Mini-Slammers team for grade 5-6 students who want to play volleyball. We won't be playing any games but will go to the final tournament at the start of November. Practices will be held during lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Our Cross Country runners have attended runs in Hardisty and Bashaw over the last 2 weeks. They will be heading to Camrose on Thursday next week. You can check results at the Battle River Race Series website.
