Our curriculum!
The SC classes use an adapted curriculum called enCore! There are a total of 36 units, and those units are banded by grade levels. All of our classes have multiple grade levels. Due to this, some classes might use two units simultaneously. For example, a class might use a unit for kindergarten through second and a different unit for grades third through fifth. Each unit consist of an adapted fiction book and an adapted nonfiction book. It takes six weeks to complete one full unit with three weeks per book.

What we learned last week!
In social studies we learned about community helpers.
In math, we worked on operations with base-10! Depending on the class this ranges from building numbers to 5, using base-10 to represent numbers, and adding fractions!
Mrs. Banks' class wrote about their future endeavors as a community helper.
Ms. Turnbull's class sorted the tools community helpers use.

In literacy, we will begin week two of our nonfiction adapted books!
- Ms. Payne will use the books Food Groups and Animal Habitats.
- Mrs. Bassery will use the books Jobs in the Community and Staying Healthy.

This week in science we will be working on describing earth materials such as soil, water, and rocks. Ms. Turnbull's class will be working on constructive and destructive processes such as earthquakes.
In math, we will be working on money. Money is an important life skill for our students. You can practice at home identifying different coins and dollar bills.
