OLIS awarded 9 LORI Learning Grants through the 2020 LORI Learning Grant Program; the total amount of the grants is over $14,000.00. The LORI Learning Grant projects take place from June 1, 2020 through August 31, 2020.
40,812 items were transported in the LORI Delivery system during the week of October 20, 2019.
OLIS is pleased to share that we have acquired a one-year license for all RI public library employees, trustees and friends to access Ryan Dowd’s online Librarian’s Guide to Homelessness Training.
Information about legislative actions during the 2020 session of the RI General Assembly that impact libraries will be posted on this page of the OLIS website as it becomes available.

The Governor's proposed budget includes level funding of state aid to libraries in fiscal year 2021.

Healthy Communities Course from NNLM and WebJunction
The National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) regional libraries, in collaboration with WebJunction, are developing Healthy Communities courses for public libraries. A series of four courses are planned. The first class Libraries Partners in Healthy Communities is posted WebJunction and available for registration.
Library visits outpace all other cultural activities
According to a recent Gallup poll, the top cultural attraction for Americans is the library. On average, Americans visit the library twice as much as they go to the movies, the second most popular activity. Check out the article to learn about visits by age groups, gender, income, and geographic location.
Grants for Preservation and Historical Programs
The Rhode Island Foundation is accepting applications for the Joseph O’Neill Ott Fund and the Rhode Island Supreme Court Historical Society Fund. If applicable, libraries and organizations may apply for funding from both funds.
