July 2024
A letter from our leader Janice
Life is just a chair full of bowlies.
When Mary Englebreit first became popular I loved her easy breezy attitude. I still do. Her early work embodies a youthful attitude. But how many of you have seen Engledark? Today, many of her Engledark witticisms resonate more clearly with me.
So if you are juggling cherries or chaos, put those aside and join us in July. We will be making our own bowls out of rope or fabric. And by being around each other, we can fill or empty what each one of us is carrying around.
Keep Stitching,
Janice

July Meeting
For the Rope Bowl workshop bring clothesline rope (good old cotton rope, not a synthetic), strips of fabric from 1/2" to 1", a machine that can zigzag over the rope and the usual sewing supplies. Here is a picture of a rope bowl to inspire you!
For the Flower Catch All bowl, here is a supply list: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PA2u-X5jorWcPymMzjOjAfbCFKYGMY3-/view?usp=share_link
Geri will bring a couple of copies and she would like to precut the interfacing but she needs to know how many people plan to make this bowl. Her email is geri_beam@yahoo.com. Please contact her if you plan to make this bowl. A picture is included with the supply list.

Improving your hand jobs - tips and techniques
Since we’re all at various levels when it comes to hand stitching, learn, refresh or improve your hand embroidery skills with tips and techniques from Bee members. Some of the experienced stitchers in Bee Artful are ready to share! Each month you can come with a sampler of some kind (cloth, hoop, needles, floss, and/or Perle cotton (see photo for a sampler idea) and learn some new stitches.
Critique Documents for reference
https://www.janedunnewold.com/resources/critiques
One is a checklist that can be used as a guideline when looking at a quilt - this is published on her website as part of her creative strength training class.
The second is a detailed essay she wrote concerning the process.
I hope that these documents will help the Bee Artful group conduct critique sessions that are productive.
Letter from the editor
The June meeting might have had lower attendance but you can see all of the activity above from those in attendance. Summer is truly upon us so more time for quilting because it is too hot to be outside! I will miss the July meeting but hope to be there in August to lead us through some traditions in Japanese quilting.
I am happy to convey all of these wonderful "goings on" via this newsletter. Try to get things to me in advance of the end of the month via email (mandmoliver@gmail.com) or text. If you put the word "newsletter" somewhere in the message line I will be able to find it easier (if using email). See you soon.
