Dear Waunakee Community Middle School Families:

We are excited to share that all Waunakee Community Middle School students and staff will be attending the groundbreaking ceremony for our new school on Friday, September 20 at 10:00 a.m. The event will take place at the new Waunakee Community Middle School site. Students will walk over to the ceremony with all our staff, and return to school when the ceremony is finished. Have your child wear their Waunakee purple!

We are excited that the students and staff get to participate in this very special event. While we know that many of our parents and community members would like to attend, we just do not have the space to accommodate this.

We are working together with our own Warrior Media crew at Waunakee Community High School to hopefully livestream the entire event. Keep you posted if the students are able to do that for us. You can find access to the livestream here. Thank you for understanding!

Estamos emocionados de compartir que todos los estudiantes y el personal de la Escuela Media de la Comunidad de Waunakee asistirán a la ceremonia de colocación de la primera piedra de nuestra nueva escuela el viernes 20 de septiembre a las 10:00 a.m. El evento se llevará a cabo en el nuevo sitio de la Escuela Media de la Comunidad de Waunakee. Los estudiantes caminarán hacia la ceremonia con todo nuestro personal y regresarán a la escuela cuando termine la ceremonia. ¡Pídale a su hijo/a que use el color morado de Waunakee!

Our online registration is live! We encourage you to register as soon as possible. All families of returning and new students are required to register. We need our families to review and update their household and student information. This is a requirement and NOT OPTIONAL for ALL families.

Registration will take place online in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. This process should take 15-20 minutes. To help prevent duplication of information, only the Primary Household member will need to login to their Infinite Campus parent account and click on the “more” tab to access the online registration. We will not hold on-site registration at any of our buildings. If you have questions or need assistance with Infinite Campus, please send an email to District Registrar, Julie Gengler, at wcsd_registrar@waunakee.k12.wi.us. If you would like assistance with the online registration in a language other than English, please contact District Interpreter and Translator, Jose Velarde Aguilar, at 608-206-5730.

You're Invited to the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Community Tours for our new Heritage Elementary School on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

School safety is a priority in the Waunakee Community School District. We take several steps to ensure each child is safe and each school is secure. An important component of this work is that we participate in monthly safety drills using our Standard Response Protocol (SRP) methods for evacuation (fire), shelter (tornado), secure (danger outside the building), lockdown (danger inside the building), and hold (medical event, student crisis, etc. in the building). Our staff teach students about our safety drills in a matter-of-fact and developmentally appropriate manner, and explain that we participate in these drills as a way to stay safe so we know what to do in an actual emergency, even though the chances of a real incident are rare.

During the week of September 16, 2024, Waunakee Middle School will be participating in the hold drill. Prior to the drill, school administration and your child’s teacher will prepare your child for the drill, including answering any questions they have. During the drill, the safety protocol measures in SRP will be followed. Following the drill, students will be reminded that schools are some of the safest places to be and that the skills students and staff learn about safety can be applied anywhere, both in school and out of school. The law enforcement officers and school administrators will discuss what went well and areas to improve. We will then send you a message that same day so you are aware the drill took place.

At the Board of Education meeting on Monday, September 9, the Board members discussed the upcoming Fall 2024 referendum and planning for our school district. Please visit our website for more information and upcoming dates for community engagement. The first public informational session will take place on Wednesday, September 25 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. On Thursday, September 5, the Village of Waunakee Public Works Committee met. With resident input through public comments, the Committee heard concerns regarding the intersection of South Street and Kingston Way. This intersection, located near Waunakee Community Middle School and Waunakee Community High School, is being further reviewed to enhance safety based on these comments.

In response, the Village will be installing flags on stop signs and adding additional “SLOW for Children” signs at this intersection.

The Village of Waunakee and Waunakee Community School District remain committed to the safety of our students, staff, and community members. We appreciate your cooperation when driving in this area, especially during student drop-off and pick-up times. Your patience and attentiveness to pedestrians are greatly appreciated. The Village of Waunakee notified us on Wednesday, August 21 that the construction and road work along South Street will not be completed by the beginning of the school year. The projected timeline for the entire road project will be completed by early October.

Concrete work on the sidewalk near 8th Street will be completed by the beginning of school. Pedestrians are able to use Fish, West, and O’Malley Streets to access the South side of 8th Street. They will then be able to use the sidewalk through to the Middle and High School campuses.

To ensure the safety of all students, we kindly ask parents and guardians to discuss alternative walking or biking routes to Waunakee Community Middle School and Waunakee Community High School with their children, being mindful of the ongoing construction along South Street. In addition, the use of profanity, intimidating remarks, or actions is strictly prohibited.

Our Badger Conference schools are committed to fostering an environment where respect, fairness, and integrity prevail. High school sports are more than just games; they are opportunities for our young athletes to develop character, build bonds, and form lifelong memories.
