New Student Placement
Parents and students are responsible for assuring that the enrolling campus received the high school educational records for a student who is registering. Courses will be evaluated for transfer of credit. Award of credit is based on alignment with Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills. A student entering the district from non-accredited public, private, or parochial school, including home schools, shall be placed initially at the discretion of the principal, pending assessment appropriate to the student’s grade level, validation of credits, or results of credit-by-examination tests [FD (LOCAL)]. Student or parent shall request credit validation at the time of registration. Please check with your campus registrar for more information.
Promotion, grade-level advancement, and course credit shall be based on mastery of the curriculum. Grade-level advancement for students in grades 9-12 shall be determined by course credits and the student’s original year of entry into grade nine. (EIE LOCAL).

Pass/Fail Courses
A high school student may choose to take a course on a pass/fail (P/F) basis IF the course is beyond state and district graduation requirements in that subject area and is not to be used to satisfy the elective credit requirement for the graduation plan that the student has declared. The grade will not be included in the computation of the student’s grade point average (GPA). Please note the following:
A student must request pass/fail status in a course no later than the last instructional day of the first six weeks of the semester. Pass/Fail status must be submitted each semester. We will send out reminders and provide the Pass/Fail forms in October.
Once a student enrolls in a course on a pass/fail basis, the request to take the course on a pass/fail basis may not be rescinded.
Written approval of the principal or designee, the teacher, and the parent must be acquired prior to placement in a course on a pass/fail basis.
The pass/fail option is available for high school credit courses only.
The grades in a course taken on a pass/fail basis will be recorded numerically for each nine weeks grading period and for the final exam, but the final course grade will be recorded as a “P” or an “F."
Transfer grades of “P” or “F”: Credits transferred from other school districts with an assigned grade of “P” or “F” shall remain a “P” or “F”. The grade will not be included in the computation of the student’s GPA and may count towards state and district graduation credit requirements, as determined by the sending district.
Austin Community College's Dual Credit Program
What is ACC Dual Credit?
Anderson students are able to get a jump start on college by taking classes through Austin Community College (ACC) while still in high school. Although the program is called Dual Credit, students are also able to take classes that are for college credit only.
• Dual Credit is credit that counts for both high school credit and college credit. Examples of this are ENGL 1301/1302 which also counts for AHS English IV, and GOVT 2305 which also counts for AHS US Government.
• Co-enrollment is credit that counts for college credit only. An example of this is Texas State and Local Government.
Where and when do students take classes?
Students can begin taking ACC classes as a freshman in high school (as long as they are college ready via TSI or other test exemption). Students are able to take ACC classes at Anderson, at any ACC campus, or online through ACC’s distance learning program.
How much do ACC classes cost?
There is not a tuition charge for the first 12 classes; however, students are required to buy their books and supplies and pay any course fees. Any classes taken beyond 12 will be assessed the regular ACC fee.
What are the requirements to take ACC classes?
In order to take classes, students must show that they are college ready. Students take the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) test or qualify for an exemption. (printable form available HERE)
Do Dual Credit classes transfer?
Yes! If you are attending a state school in Texas, you can click here. for the equivalency guide.
Most public schools outside of Texas and most private schools also accept dual credit classes. Please refer to the individual school's website to find out if and how the credits will transfer.
OnRamps
OnRamps—an initiative of The University of Texas at Austin—provides academic opportunities and support to prepare students for college success. We do this by offering high-quality, dual enrollment courses in Science, Technology, Mathematics, Arts, and Humanities.
OnRamps increases the number of students who access and engage with college-level classes. Read our mission.
Experience College Before College
OnRamps offers semester- and year-long college-credit bearing courses, designed by The University of Texas at Austin faculty, to give students a chance to experience college before college and prepare them for the academic and social expectations of higher education.
We partner with school districts to bring OnRamps courses to their campuses. Courses are delivered through a dual enrollment model, which means students are enrolled in both a high school course, led by a high school teacher, taught on the campus, and a college course, led by a faculty member or college instructor of record, taught online.

Off-Campus Physical Education
The Austin ISD Off-Campus Physical Education Program (OCPE) is designed to accommodate students who are pursuing high-level skills in a specific activity that exceeds what the school district can offer through the general physical education program. OCPE allows students in 7th through 12th grade to earn credits that meet the district and state physical education requirements. In Austin ISD, only agencies that have been district trained can provide OCPE credit. Part of the requirements include utilizing the AISD OCPE curriculum.
Students in OCPE are expected to be physically educated and physically active. They are expected to demonstrate skill development, learned physical activity, health concepts and social development. These skills and knowledge are assessed through participation in the selected physical activity and tested through written assignments and exams based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Physical Education.
