Principal's Message
With the abbreviated week due to family day, we hope everyone has had a good start to the week and speaking on behalf of all of us, I know we are all excited for some warmer weather that is upcoming.
As a refresher or for those that don’t know the history of this holiday, Family Day weekend came to fruition 35 years ago in 1990 by our former Premier, Don Getty. Premier Getty had a family tragedy at the time and had the vision of the importance of this holiday. It was a bit criticized at the time, but Premier Getty had this one right. With the ‘hustle and bustle’ of all that we go through in life, the time to slow down and spend time together is much needed and appreciated.
To start, a shout out to the players and coaches of our basketball teams who are at the halfway point of the season. This past weekend, our Senior Boys won gold at the SAL tournament while our girls won the consolation final. Our Junior Girls are undefeated in league play and our Junior Boys are right in the mix. Our Junior Development teams are doing that, developing and hopefully having loads of fun. Thank you to the coaches, volunteers, parents and caregivers for supporting Sherwood Heights Athletics!
With recent Open Houses across the Division, the ‘Returning Student Registration’ will be closing on Monday, February 24. To our grade 9 student families, understanding that transitioning to high school can be difficult, should you have any questions around high school programming, please do not hesitate to contact me, sunny.sandhu@eips.ca, and we can meet and I can answer any questions you may have. As a background and again, for those that don’t know, my previous three principalships were all in high school, my last being at Salisbury Composite High School for the past five years.
To our current grade 7 and 8 families, we are working on our course handbook for the 2025-26 school year and will have it published in early March in preparation for the registration process later that month.
As a staffing update, and to better support our students, we welcome two more Educational Assistants for the remainder of the year, Lyndsi Fairweather and Sandra Prior. We also welcome Marie Constant who will be replacing Mr. Wiens. We wish Mr. Wiens all the best in his future endeavors.
In closing, please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.

Forest Grove Update
As you’re aware, Forest Grove School will be open for classes in time for the 2026-27 school year, bringing together students from Sherwood Heights Junior High and École Campbelltown. The new building will house the single-track French Immersion elementary program along with a dual-track English-French junior high program, and offer leading-edge learning spaces for generations to come.
To help promote a new, cohesive school community, principals of both Sherwood Heights and École Campbelltown have formed a collaborative principalship as they prepare for the transition. Over the next year and a half, Mr. Sunny Sandhu and Mr. Greg Probert will work closely with students and families from both schools to ensure everyone is involved in fostering school culture, and both current communities feel engaged.
The co-principals are excited for the new school to open, and to welcome students for the first day of classes in 2026! In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to either Principal Sandhu or Principal Probert.
