The Evolution of Kids Shows
A World of Changing 'Friends'
1970s
In the 1970s it seems that most popular type of kid shows were the ones that had puppets. These had puppets that were created to look slightly outlandish and interacted with people, usually children. Also cartoons and superheroes were extremely popular. Some of the shows that were aired: Sigmund and the Sea Monsters (1973-75), and Bigfoot and Wildboy.

1980s
During this time period one of the most popular children's TV shows was Sesame Street. We see the trend of puppets and costumes continue into this decade. During this time more parents looked towards television to help teach their children how to behave. Shows like Full House and Reading Rainbow (one of my childhood favorites) gained popularity. Examples: Tom and Jerry, and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.
1990s
Sesame Street remained a popular kid show into the 1990s. In fact studies took place and said that there kids who watched Sesame Street were 14% less likely to be behind in school. Educational shows, like The Magic School Bus, became very widespread. In contrast, shows like Sponge Bob Square Pants become more popular. This lead to an increase in our stupidity.

Stupidity in its pure form.

2000s
Again Sesame Street remained one of the best kid shows. Power Rangers and Spider-Man: The Animated Series grew in popularity and were ranked number six and two by TV.com. Sponge Bob was ranked number four. Over the years we can see that the shows have evolved from teaching our children to just entertaining them.
Look at the stupidity and realize the horror.
