Hawthorne Reads
As part of our focus this year at Hawthorne, students are learning about being metacognitive. When we are metacognitive we are aware of our own thinking processes. Our Hawthorne classrooms ae reading the book, I Am Thinking My Life, by Allysun Atwater, which is about the power of positive thinking, planning and creativity.
Celebrating Our Heritage
As part of building our classroom communities, our teachers would love to learn more about your family heritage and your rich and interesting cultural heritage. We would also love to hear more about how you might like to share your family traditions with our students in school. We appreciate you taking the time to help by completing the questionnaire below. Please complete the questionnaire prior to October 4th. Thank you.
Hawthorne Health Office
Lisa Ciliberti, RN, Liz Makar, RN, and Tracy Buonsante, Health Aide, are our health office team members. Our team is here to support and care for your child’s health. As you know, our little ones get bumps, scrapes, and sniffles as they work and play together.
If your child visits the nurse or is ill and needs to be picked up from school, you will receive a call from the health office during the day. Children home sick with a fever should not return to school unless they are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine. We also use the 24-hour time frame for students who have vomited.
If your child is taking prescription or over-the-counter medication (including cough drops) that needs to be administered during the school day, please bring the medication to the nurse’s office with a doctor’s note.
Routine health screenings for hearing and vision will be conducted for students in kindergarten and first-grade beginning in October. The health office will contact you if the screening indicates that further assessment is needed.
Thank you for keeping our students safe by following our procedure for nut-free and sunflower seed free snacks and meals. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
