Sabal Palm Family Newsletter!
November 2024
Greetings Sabal Palm Families!
Dear Sabal Palm Elementary Parents and Guardians,
As we welcome the month of November, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the support and dedication shown by our entire school community. This time of year reminds us of the importance of family, reflection, and thankfulness. We are so fortunate to have such engaged and enthusiastic families who contribute to the learning environment here at Sabal Palm.
November is an exciting month filled with activities and opportunities for growth. From academic challenges to our upcoming community events, we are committed to providing a nurturing and enriching experience for each student. We encourage you to stay connected by attending these events and participating in your child's educational journey.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, let us celebrate not only the progress our students are making but also the bonds that unite us as a school family. Your partnership is key to our students' success, and for that, we are truly grateful.
Thank you for your continued involvement and trust in us. We look forward to ending the year strong and sharing more memorable moments together!
Your Principal,
Amber Felts

BREAKFAST & LUNCH INFORMATION!
The DCPS Food Service Department is pleased to announce that for the 2024-2025 school year, every public school in DCPS will be a part of the Community Eligibility Provision program. Under CEP, school meals are available to all students at no cost to them.
The CEP program has benefits for both students and schools!
- Kids get free meals – and when their nutritional needs are met, a student is more attentive in class, has better attendance, and may have fewer disciplinary problems.
- CEP promotes equity by eliminating the out-of-pocket costs for families.
Free and Reduced applications are not required and will not be processed.
Breakfast will be served from 8:00-8:30am daily Students wishing to eat breakfast at SPE should arrive early enough to be ready for class at 8:30am.

PLEASE BE SURE TO REVIEW THE UPDATED DCPS CALENDER! THE LINK BELOW REFLECTS THE MAKE-UP DAYS FROM THE HURRICANE SEASON.
EARLY DISMISSAL!
Our first early release day for this year will be November 20th. On early release days students are dismissed one hour and 45 minutes earlier. Dismissal will begin at 1:00pm. All students should be picked up no later than 1:15pm. Early checkouts will be no later than 12:15. Please refer to the DCPS calendar for all early release dates for 2024-2025.
EARLY CHECK OUT POLICY!
As a reminder, students will not be released after 2:15 PM or after 12:15 PM on Early Release days, per DCPS policy. In addition, please reserve early pick up for days when it is absolutely needed. We understand that appointments and emergencies come up at times but please ensure your child is in school the entire day when possible.
REGISTER FOR BUS TRANSPORTATION!
All students who will ride a bus to and/or from school this year need to be registered for bus transportation. This can be done following the steps on the link below through your parent FOCUS account. Bus routes will be created based on addresses of students riding so please sign up as early as possible and make sure your address is correct in FOCUS. Once available, you will also be able to view your child's bus stop information in your parent FOCUS account. Make sure to register each child that will be riding.
HAZEL HEALTH: AVAILABLE FOR ALL STUDENTS
Hazel Health has partnered with Duval County Public Schools to expand student health services at no-cost to families this school year. When your student needs help, they can connect with Hazel for same-day care.
*STUDENT I.D. BADGES*
Beginning in August, all students will have an I.D. card with a lanyard for safety, lunch, and bus accountability. I.D. cards must be returned to students each day. Students will only receive one I.D. card. If a student loses/damages an I.D. card, the replacement cost is $5.00.
To maintain the longevity of I.D. cards, please discuss with your student the purpose of these cards and the importance of taking care of their I.D. card.
Our amazing PTA organization is looking forward to another great school year!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Classroom volunteers may return to our classrooms on an as needed basis. If the teacher needs a volunteer, he/she will reach out to families. If you would like to be a volunteer in our school when needed, please make sure you have filled out the volunteer information at https://dcps.duvalschools.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=29120 or click the icon below.
At this time, we are only able to allow up to 2 volunteers at a time in any classroom. In addition, all volunteers must schedule in advance with the teacher. Volunteers will be able to assist for up to an hour per day in the classroom as needed. Volunteers cannot bring younger siblings.
A volunteer application is good for two years. The same application is needed for those wishing to volunteer in the classroom, chaperone field trips and eat lunch with their child on campus. We encourage any parents, grandparents or other family members who may want to get involved at SPE to fill out this application as early as possible in the school year. Applications can take up to a few weeks to be approved.
WATER BOTTLES
Please plan to send a reusable water bottle with your child to school daily. Our students may drink from these in class throughout the day as well as take them to recess and PE. Thanks to PTA fundraising efforts last year, and your support, we will be installing additional water bottle refill stations for our students to use as needed.
