PPA Specific information to keep in mind:
As a reminder, students that are driving should review this information. It is important for our student drivers to continue to be safe for themselves and others in our parking lots and on the roads. Please note that students that do not park in the designated student parking session:
First offense- a verbal warning and ask to move their vehicle to the proper area
Second offense- parent communication
Ongoing offenses will be discussed with families and hopes of a resolution
Scholars should be prepared to learn everyday! Chromebooks should be with students daily. To reduce students transporting their wonderful Chromebooks they have the opportunity to leave the CB’s at PPA to be charged. Those that turned in Chromebooks will be able to pick them up from the main office. We will not issue a Chromebook to students if they have one or more already checked out to them. Please have your scholar return any damaged Chromebooks to the main office. We have a limited number of Chromebooks that students may use as loaners but that is on a first come basis.
Child care information!
Teddy’s Place at PPA is underway!!!!! If you are not aware.. Teddy’s Place is a childcare facility in Sun Prairie that will have a place in PPA in support of our school-aged parents. We are truly excited to have an opportunity to support students and remove barriers.
West Homecoming Parade
Thank you to our student volunteer for wearing the PPA Mascot in the parade.
Atmosphere Workshop:
Students have been spending time learning about the layers of the atmosphere, where they are, and what makes them significant in the natural world and in our lives. We are just finishing a lab on density, to show the relationship between mass, density and volume. Scholars found the mass and volume of pennies from pre 1982 and post 1982, and a list of known metal densities to find out what metal(s) might be inside that penny!
Scholars using a simple tool to show MIE scattering. A way to see that clouds are truly all white in color, it is only an exaggeration of our brain that makes the more dense clouds appear gray.
Great African Civilizations: written by Kay and Zariyah
We are wrapping up our adventure in learning about the history, culture, and food of Great African Civilizations. Throughout the session, our class chefs honed their teamwork and cooking skills.
Today, we made Nigerian chicken stew and fufu. And the combination of the two was incredible!
Fufu is a versatile dish found throughout Africa, often serving as a staple food. It is typically made by boiling or steaming starchy root vegetables or grains, then pounding or grinding them into a dough-like consistency. The resulting mixture is often served with a flavorful sauce or stew.
While we didn’t exactly smash up starchy roots to make our fufu, all the scholars really shone on every aspect of the food making process!
JAG (Job’s of America Graduates)Notes:
The past couple of weeks we focused on resumes and DREAMS!! We also took a field trip to the Academy of Beauty Professionals in Madison, WI. Students learned more the different careers offered and how to enroll if they wanted to attend. The students also got to watch/help with an up-do hairstyle, it was amazing to watch them interact and work together. We also took a trip to another JAG program in Milwaukee; during the field trip we focused on building leadership skills, team building, and had a keynote speaker.
Mobile Lab Learning 10/24: Students will learn more about Careers in Energy and do hands on activities at PPA
HOPE(Health Occupations and Professions) 11/2: Is a program run by UW Health Career Pathways designed to expose 10th-12th grade students to various career paths and professions in healthcare. Students will get to explore different careers in hospital from 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m. and do hands-on activities. *Requires sign up
