UHC COVID-19 Medical Update
Access to Telehealth
24/7 Virtual Visits: While these visits cannot be used to test for or treat COVID-19, they can be useful in determining if you should call your local health care provider regarding COVID-19 testing. These visits are also ideal for urgent care treatment of other illnesses, like the seasonal flu, allergies, pink eye and more. Co-pay costs for telehealth services will be waived through June 18, 2020. Expect higher than normal wait times or take advantage of the “make an appointment” option. Please see attached for additional information.
Early Prescription Refill
If you need an early prescription refill, you may request one through your pharmacy. Consider your current supply, as well as near-term medication needs to determine if you should refill early.
Cost Sharing Waived for COVID-19 Tests
UHC is waiving the cost for COVID-19 testing and COVID-19 related visits during this national emergency. This would apply to testing related visits received in a health care provider’s office, an urgent care center, an emergency department or through telehealth. Co-pays, deductible and OPM will still apply to any treatment received.Flexible Spending Account Update - Medical Expenses
The new CARES Act has expanded the list of eligible medical items to now include the following:

In these instances, participants may change their dependent Flex election amount or stop contributing altogether per the IRS allowable event of a ‘change in the cost or coverage of the care.’ For eligibility, please keep in mind the following:
- Participants must make the change within 30 days of the event
- The change must not be less than total contributions to-date
- No refunds of previous contributions are allowed
In order to adjust your dependent flex election amount you must complete a new form and this return back to me for processing: Flex Election Form
Prescription Drug List Update - Effective May 1, 2020
UnitedHealthcare Pharmacy has recently been evaluating their approach to updating their prescription drug lists (PDL). As a result, they are moving up the next round of PDL changes to May 1 to take advantage of market adjustments earlier in the year. You will receive a letter from UnitedHealthcare if your medication is changing tiers or coverage, you can also check the attached list. If your medication is changing to a higher tier, you may want to discuss options with your doctor.
Please also be aware that Preferred90 allows members to choose either OptumRx home delivery, any CVS Pharmacy (Target Pharmacy), or Walgreens for a 90 day supply at the cost of two copayments.
