Newsletter Week 9, Term 4
Huirangi Primary School, Monday 12th December 2022
Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!
This is the final newsletter for 2022! What a year it has been!
Thank you to all of you for you care and support as we rode the wave that 2022 was! Amongst being closed due to a huge COVID outbreak in March, we have come out the other side, holding some awesome events as the year progressed! Your support and understanding has been amazing.
End of Year Reports and Sample Books (Year 2-5 students) will be coming home with your child this afternoon. Please contact the office if yours doesn't turn up in your child's bag! We have been extremely pleased with the progress all of our tamariki have made with their learning across the curriculum. I know I say it often, but our teachers do a fantastic job and our kids are very lucky!
To our Year 6 Leavers; You have been a great bunch of kids! You have given us very few headaches and have proven that you are all leaders in your own right! Keep your RAFT Values intact as you approach your next learning journey. As your class whakatauki says; "“E kore au e ngaro he kākano i ruia mai i Rangiātea. ~ I shall never be lost for I am a seed fully nourished mentally and spiritually." Take pride in where you have come from and go forth with pride!
To Ms. Perkins; Your passion for education is second to none. Your bubbly personality, sense of humour and dedication to teaching our Huirangi Seniors will be missed. We wish you all the very best as you embark on a new journey in your career, teaching English at New Plymouth Boys' High School. The staff and students are very lucky to have an amazing educator like you as part of their team.
To everyone in our Huirangi Whānau, from the entire staff and myself; have an enjoyable Christmas and Summer Break.
We look forward to all 2023 students returning on Tuesday 31st January.
Ngā mihi nui,
Natalie Looney
Principal

If the weather is fine the evening will start with a BYO picnic dinner at 5pm, with formalities beginning at 6pm. If the weather is wet, there won't be a picnic, just the prizegiving in the hall at 6pm.
This is a very special night, especially for our Year 6 Leavers.
Tough Kid
In Week 7, the Year 5’s and 6’s went in cars down to Hawera for Tough Kids. Tough Kids is a fun obstacle course that is designed for kids to have fun and get active.
On the marshalls count, we got into groups of 4 or 5 and grabbed a hula hoop. We went over the course which was-
Walking on wood planks
Stepping through tyres
Going through a maze of bailing twine
Jumping through gaps in wood jumps
A tunnel that we had to crawl through
Zigzagging through cones
Climbing up scaffolding
Jumping over wooden shapes
Running through a truck and jumping on a mat
Commando crawling under a wooden tunnel
Then we grabbed water and started again! It was so much fun!

Year 6 Day Out!
On Wednesday the 7th of December the Year 6's of Huirangi Kura went on their Year 6 outing. They were taken to the pools in town and bowlarama where they played 1 game of bowling and 1 game of laser tag. The laser tag and bowling was a blast and the kids loved it. After that we went to the Todd Energy Aquatic Centre and swam around for about an hour before we got Pizza delivered. We had fun on the diving boards and the wave machine. We stayed there for about another hour before we got some ice cream then headed back to school. Overall the kids loved it and it was a great day out.

Fancy Dress Folk Dance Evening
Thursday 8th of December was Huirangi School's fancy dress. Everyone lined up with their buddy and did a really cool spiral walk in to show off all the amazing costumes people had come up with while singing Feliz Navidad. He Kākano, Puawaitanga, Kōkihi, Māhuri, and He Puāwai had spent the last few weeks working on class dances. In between some class dances the whole school sang kiwi christmas songs. At the end the whole school got up and did a dance to Irish Washerwoman. It was a fun evening!

Puawaitanga Host Kura Visit
On Wednesday a Kura Kaupapa from New Plymouth came to our school. We had kai in our class room and then played netball and soccer. Puawaitanga were proud to host this wonderful sports exchange. The kura had lots of amazing fun at Huirangi School. They also had a swim in our pool and stayed at Kairau Marae.

Farewell Ms. Perkins
Sadly, we all have to say goodbye to our incredible senior teacher, Ms Perkins.
Ms Perkins has decided to begin a new chapter of her career at New Plymouth Boys High. She has always wanted to teach English, so at Boys High she will be happily teaching English.
We want to say a big thank you for everything you’ve taught us. We will miss your Tok Tik's, your funny stories and silly jokes! We wish you all the best along your new journey.
