PARKWAY ELEMENTARY
Fobell’s Field Trip
Ms. Fobell’s class was able to enjoy some time away from campus when they went to the movies on March 8. They had a marvelous time having the theater all to themselves to watch Sing 2. The next day students enjoyed another field trip to the WOW (World of Wonders) Museum downtown Longview. Thank you to Mrs. Fobell, Ms. Tina, Ms. Jackie, and Ms. Jennifer for loving on your amazing students.
Kids Heart Challenge
The week before spring break all the special classes got together to do our Kids Heart Challenge kickoff. Music, art, computer and PE all came to the gym to talk about the Kids Heart Challenge and how to be a heart hero for the American Heart Association.
Our goal here at Parkway is to raise $1,500 for the American Heart Association to help with heart research for sick hearts. For every student that raises $100, they will get to slime their PE teachers. After we showed the students the kickoff video, the students enjoyed doing some Heart Hero exercises. The students jogged in place, did some lunges, then finished off with some jumping jacks. Our kiddos are off to a great start to raise money for the American Heart Association.
JUNIOR HIGH
PTJH students and staff pushed hard to reach last week’s timely break! Nearly 300 Pirates with awesome attendance were rewarded with a trip to the AMC Theater on Friday before break to catch a show. Students enjoyed Sing 2 and nearly ate their weight in popcorn!

The following students were members of the top six teams in the Engineering Design Challenge: Audrey Jenkins, Aubree Murphy, Zoey Bowers, Alex Chen, Emily Willadson, Charlotte Dean, William Jordan, Emma Hicks, and Clark Medin. The 7th and 8th grade Boys teams followed up their sweep of 1st place at the Pirate Relays by scoring an impressive pair of victories at the Lobo Relays against competitors from Longview, Tyler, Texarkana, and Lufkin.

Dennis Pate, better known as Papa Pate, was honored at the March board meeting as one of the very first recipients of the Most Valuable Pirate award. His dedication, servant’s heart, and love for our students and staff are apparent in his actions each and every day. We are truly blessed to have him as a part of our Birch First Family!
Our Above and Beyond Award recipient for March is Behavior Interventionist, Andrea Mabe. This educator is an inspiration to us all as she puts others’ needs before her own on a daily basis. Young Athletes Carnival
Our Birch First Pirates showed off their talents at the Circus of Skills brought to you by the Pine Tree Young Athletes Program and the Special Olympics of Texas.
Students engaged in various activities such as bowling, balloon volleyball, soccer, and ring toss. Sincere thanks to the student volunteers from Pine Tree Junior High, PACE, and ABU.
EXCEL
ExCEL High School would like to congratulate and celebrate our newest graduate, Madison McKinley. Madison became a part of the ExCEL family after trying virtual learning for a semester after the initial COVID outbreak.
Virtual learning proved to be a bit of a challenge for Madison and she found herself falling behind. She came to ExCEL at the start of the second semester of 2021. She found that it was not only better for her than virtual learning but she also discovered she liked it better than the traditional classroom setting. She says what she liked most was the smaller classroom environment since it made it easier to get the help she needed. She says she really liked and appreciated the support she found at ExCEL from the teachers.
Lead teacher, Mrs. Brittney Jones, describes Madison as a determined individual once she sets her mind to something. She also describes her as being spirited and a caring and compassionate person. When Madison was asked to describe herself she joked and said she is "someone who is always hungry!"
Madison would like to pursue a career in photography. While attending Pine Tree High Schoo,l she was in photography her sophomore year and in photojournalism her junior and senior years. She plans on attending Tyler Junior College.
We at ExCEL wish Madison the best as she heads off into the adult world.

HIGH SCHOOL
Spring break is over, the clock is ticking and the race to summer vacation is underway at Pine Tree High School.
TELPAS writing samples will be finalized this week after students have taken TELPAS tests. The STAAR exams are starting and will last until early May, so students are preparing for those as well.
Prom is scheduled for Saturday, April 2 at Pinecrest Country Club, so seniors are purchasing tickets, getting their prom attire and getting ready for an evening of fun and memories. Parents have been working hard to put together a great prom, so seniors are ready to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Students are also getting schedules ready for next year and completing work they need for this year. Administrators and teachers are very busy working on projects, activities and classwork for the final nine weeks. There are approximately 42 days left of instruction before the end of the year.
Seniors are busy getting ready for graduation. Precision has its spring show in
April as well as the PTHS Choir.
UIL Academics is getting ready to participate in district competition. Director of Fine Arts/UIL Academics Lee Branson said Pine Tree is poised to send a host of students on to regionals and most likely to state. Pine Tree has had an excellent year thus far and is primed for additional success.
Many clubs and organizations are ending their year with activities and beginning to plan for the next school year. The weather is getting warmer, so groups are hosting outdoor events that allow students to have a good time.
It will be a very busy time at PTHS between now and May 26. But, for all of the work that will go on, there will be a lot of success stories that bolster students into a bright future.
MIDDLE
The Pine Tree Middle School CEER class presented the play, Law and Order and other Fairy Tales, during their study of drama. CEER teachers, Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Vidaurri, hosted two performances on March 11. The students not only performed in the play, but also created props and produced their play.
In Art, fifth grade students learned about Ukraine. They learned that the sunflower is Ukraine’s national flower. Each student created half a sunflower and Mrs. Guerra united their half with another student’s to complete the sunflower.
In Math, students are developing the concept of area perimeter creating robots and finding the area perimeter of each body part. This robot below was created by Leontae Williams.
