Employer Spotlight
Jessica Martin, HR Supervisor- Unitex
Jessica Martin sat down with Rockland Works Coordinator of Business and Employer Services Rich Gore to discuss interview tips and what Unitex seeks in a strong candidate.
Q) What do you look for in a job seeker during an interview?
A)When I first meet a candidate, I like to go over all qualifications pertaining to the position. I also would like to see how much they know about the company; did they do any research before applying? I would like to know about the current position they are in and why they are looking to leave. What do they feel they are going to contribute to this new position? During the interview process it’s crucial for me to ask questions regarding the position yes, but also questions that may not necessarily pertain to the actual position. I also try to ease in some humor to help break the ice. It’s important for me to make the candidate feel comfortable and relaxed so that we can have a more candid style of interview.
Q) What are some of the key value propositions of your brand which employees need to reflect?
A)We are a Family owned and operated company that has been operating for over 100 years. We pride ourselves in Quality and Customer Service. We operate with integrity and loyalty to our customers and employees both alike. If you apply and begin your career with Unitex, it will be a long-lasting career. We hope that anyone that joins Unitex knows they are truly entering a family.
Q) What are some of the paths for a candidate to grow at Unitex?
A)Our company, Unitex, has many different avenues for growth. Whether you are applying for a driver, production, maintenance, or management position there is plenty of room for advancement. We here at Unitex respect and encourage our employees to apply for any open positions within the company. We post internally and encourage any current employees to apply. If an employee applies and is qualified and has the skills to take on the new position… they will be considered. We also have a management track program that allows current management to attend and improve any skills they feel would benefit their position. Employee development is key to obtaining and keeping employees here at Unitex.
