Saturdays: Academy and School
Saturdays are not a day of rest at Sequoia! We have two different Saturday opportunities that students have been attending. Both of the "courses" are held on alternating Saturdays from 8:00AM-12:00PM.
Saturday school is assigned as an alternative punishment. If a student has enough offenses, like tardies, cell phones, etc. , they may be given the opportunity to restore their poor choices by attending Saturday school.
Saturday Academy is an opportunity to make up attendance. Students are required to have an attendance of 94% to participate in graduation ceremonies (across all campuses in the district) and this allows students to ability to make up attendance and raise their attendance percentage and take part in graduation.
Students are given a fresh cooked breakfast (previous meals include: french toast, scrambled eggs, and sausage; breakfast burritos; pancakes and bacon) and a grab and go lunch. Not only do they get fed, they have a chance to catch up on school work and get assistance from the teacher on staff.
Whether assigned or voluntary, take advantage of your time! Show that you are Sequoia STRONG!
Upcoming Dates: November 2, December 7

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
Recently, I watched The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and I thought it was rather interesting. I liked the movie, it wasn't too scary though. However, with the events that happened, I don’t think it was realistic. I'm not too sure what happened with the conjuring house in real life back in the 80’s, but the way it was portrayed, I seriously doubt that this is how it went. After they found an ancient relic, it kind of just turns into its own story. The beginning of it, like roughly the first 40 minutes, seemed like it could be accurate. Then, it kind of just does its own thing, it was strange.
During the movie, I was watching it with some of my friends. The movie really just didn't make any sense. It wasn't really confusing, just strange. Enticing, but still it was odd. Talking about it is hard because I'm not trying to spoil anything about the movie.

ASB Update
Sequoia High School’s first quarter has ended. Many are graduating at the end of the quarter Oct 10th. Thanks to Mrs. Duarte and ASB class, our school is getting more creative. Recently at the beginning of the first quarter/year, we had Senior Sunrise, it was a hit! Our school volleyball team also had some wins and it went strong. We brought out the slushy and popcorn machine for spirit days we came up with. The student store has been going really strong as well. Our music has been run by Spencer Gamez, Isaiah Salazar and Logan Long from ASB.

Campus Food Options
The student store has pretty good snacks and drinks, but I'm sad we can't get Tony's pizza any more. The Domino's pizza they serve is cold and sometimes enjoyable, but mostly sad. The service is always great and always has service with a smile. They get the job done in an instant and are always prepared.
The cafeteria is always clean thanks to Eddy, he super quick on the job and keeps the campus clean. The food in the cafeteria isn't the best, but we can do way better. It's always calm in the cafeteria, nothing really happens, just folks communicating.

Past Events and Future Events
During 1st quarter, Sequoia had several events both on and off campus. There was a trip to COS, and a Trade's day adventure to Porteville college to explore possible future careers. On campus we had a camping themed spirit week, pink and green outs, college or career Wednesdays, bubble Wednesdays, not to mention senior sunrise, pancake breakfast for national pancake day, popcorn and snow cones.
2nd quarter has several upcoming events: American Indian resource fair, career fair/extended lunch, blood drive (October 29th) Halloween costume contest, Thanksgiving feast, food distribution, and a weeklong pajama extraveganza!
We hope to become more frequesnt with our newsletters and updates.
Graduate Information
Officially Graduated!
Congratulations to the students who will officially be graduating at the end of this quarter!
First quarter had approximately 25 students complete their requirements to graduate.
At Sequoia, we have the joy and pleasure of watching students complete their units and graduate each and every quarter! While we only have one graduation ceremony at the end of the year, we do take great pride in seeing our students overcome various hardships and acheive their goal of graduation!
Importance of Email
Graduates (all students, actually) need to keep their eye on their school email until the graduation ceremony. This is your main connection to future senior events: cap and gown ordering, FAFSA help, scholarship opportunities, job faire information, senior trip, senior sunset, graduation practice, etc. We don't want you to get left out of any opportunity to live your best life!
COS
Are you planning to enroll full-time at COS next fall? If so, be sure to complete your COS 2025-2026 Scholarship Application. Last year, over $500,000 in scholarships was awarded to students! The application opened on October 1st and will close on November 18th.
Students who have already completed their COS application will need to log in to their MyGiant single sign-on portal and select the Foundation Scholarship option.
If you’re planning to become a first-time student in Fall 2025, you must first submit your COS application for admission. Afterward, you’ll be able to log in to the MyGiant portal and select Foundation Scholarship.

Friendly Reminders
Dress Code
Students are checked at the gate every day and are given an alternate choice of shirt if they are found out of dress code.
To be brief: no red (or shades of red), no blue (or shades of blue), no hats, no professional sports teams that have blue or red, no alcohol, tobacco or marijuana branded apparel, no bare mid-drifts or spaghetti straps, no sagging, etc. etc.
See Mr. Guerrero, Mr. Huerta or Mr. Reyes if you have questions.
Tardies
While the amount of tardies has decreased as of late, you are still strongly reminded to get to class on time. The first period of the day is still a problem, and we encourage you to get to school earlier, rather than later. When you arrive to school after the first bell, you are subject to search and end up even later due to our BITs having to process all of the tardy students!
We would also like to remind you that you have three minutes between classes-not enough time for social banter inside or outside of the halls. Too many tardies can result in being assigned Saturday school, so be on time!!
Cell phones/Airpods/Headphones: DISTRACTIONS!
You should not have your cell phone out in class.
There is a clock on the wall AND on your computer to tell you the time. You shouldn't text anyone during class time, and you seriously do not need to watch videos, play games, or use your phone for any distracting reasons during class.
The same is true for airpods or headphones. They should not be on at all (we do not care that they "aren't turned on" or that you "only have one on") during classtime. You need to focus on instructions and hear ALL of the directions.
