the Sunrise Scoop
Week of May 2nd
Principal's Message
Our Spring Concert on Thursday evening was a great performance! Thank you to our Sunrise parents and families for coming out to support our children. Thank you for getting them to their practices throughout the school year and for supporting them in music education. Thank you to Mrs. Arner, Ms. Pacitto, Mrs. Johnson, and Dr. Silliman for teaching our wonderful Sea Turtle Musicians!
On Friday, we hosted our monthly iReady Celebration for our students in recognition of their hard work in Reading and Math. Way to go students! For the month of April, we chose to celebrate with the fun of water balloons for the first time, and it was a hit! The students, teachers, and staff loved it! Thank you to our PTO and SAC for supporting us with the funding for this exciting event. We will include photos of this event in next weeks' newsletter.
This week we kick of Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. At Sunrise, we are one united team, so we celebrate our teachers and our staff members. Students enjoy showing their appreciation too, so our PTO included some ideas below. Our theme is "Hollywood Stars" this year, so you may see Mrs. Isaacs and me dressed up throughout the week. Each year we look forward to this time. Although we do not need a special week to let our team know how much we appreciate them, it still brings us so much joy to be able to express our sincerest thanks to the most amazing teachers and staff around! Thank you for joining us in letting them know how much we care about the work they do.
This week, we also continue our state assessments. Please ensure students have a good night sleep, get a good breakfast, and arrive on time to school. Students in grades 3-6th will be testing this week.
Have a wonderful first week of May everyone!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jost

ESE Family Survey
The Florida Department of Education is working with school districts to gather information on how well parents think their child's school is partnering with parents of students with disabilities, and would like to include your input. Your responses will help guide efforts to improve services and results for children and families. This survey is for parents of students with individual educational plans (IEP) receiving special education services during the 2021-22 school year. All information provided will remain confidential.
You may submit one online survey for each child receiving services. To access the survey, please refer to the Survey ID on your invite cover letter or the box on the bottom left-hand corner of your paper survey.
Paper surveys are in the process of being sent home. If you have not received yours, please contact us. Your child's Survey ID will be in their packet.

PTO and School Advisory Council (SAC)
The next PTO and SAC meeting will be held on Monday, May 9th at 5 p.m. Voting SAC members are required to attend this meeting in person in the Sunrise Media Center. We will no longer be providing a virtual link, as we have not noted a use for this past the month of February.
Annual Review of Student and Sunrise Achievement: This will take place at our SAC meeting on May 9th. Please see the flyer below.
Parents and families, you are invited to come and hear about all of the amazing things that have happened at Sunrise this past school year! We will be reviewing our Title I budget, celebrating our students’ academic growth, discussing parent survey data, brainstorming family events for next year, and more. We are eager for parent feedback about how to better serve our Sunrise families next year! We look forward to seeing you there.
Sunrise PTO Magnet Fundraiser: Our PTO has Sunrise auto magnets for sale for $5. This fundraiser will continue through the end of the year or until our magnet supply runs out. Please ask your child to get an order form from school if you would like to purchase one or more! These magnets are SO cute and can be used for anything, not just on your automobile. Thank you for supporting Sunrise!

Sunrise is a Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Model School
We center our actions on core standards of Be Safe! Work Hard! Be Nice! Students earn tokens and positive office referrals for going above and beyond to demonstrate these three Sunrise Standards and our PBIS expectations which fall under these standards. Students use their earned tokens to spend in our quarterly PBIS store. Please continue to encourage your sea turtles to follow our Sunrise Standards: Be Safe! Work Hard! Be Kind!
Positive Office Referrals: Students also enjoy receiving Positive Office Referrals for going above and beyond to demonstrate these Sunrise Standards. When students receive a Positive Office Referral, they receive a phone call from Mrs. Jost and Mrs. Isaacs into their classroom. The teacher places the call on “speaker phone” and the entire class gets to celebrate and congratulate their classmate on the referral. The student also receives a free kid’s meal from our business partners at Texas Roadhouse, along with administration’s specialty charms (Mrs. Jost’s is a dolphin and Mrs. Isaac’s is a lightning bolt) and a pencil. These charms are worth 2 at our quarterly PBIS thumb store. Students are also recognized and congratulated on WSUN, our morning news network. Student’s names are also written each quarter on the PBIS bulletin board outside of the front office. Parents, please be on the lookout for these referrals in your child’s backpack. We do send a copy home.
PBIS Standards Posters: Being a gold model PBIS school requires us to fulfill specific PBIS guidelines and expectations. One of these requirements is to ensure we have our standards posted around the school expectations are visible and clear to students and staff. We have expectations for the hallway, recess, cafeteria, and classroom. Mrs. Woodward and our PBIS committee identified the need to add bus and car loop to our expectation posters. In addition, our committee decided to amend our Be Nice standard to the language of Be Kind, as being kind is promoted more significantly in society. Our new posters reflect the amended standard of Be Kind (Be Nice will be changed to Be Kind in the left column). We would like to thank our Sunrise PTO for supporting the purchase of updated PBIS Standard posters.
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Morning Arrival Reminders
We thank you for adhering to our campus safety guidelines of not dropping off your child earlier than 7:30 a.m. as there is no supervision on campus until 7:30 a.m.
If your child will be eating breakfast at school, please drop off your child no later than 7:40 a.m. so there is time to eat before instruction begins at 8 a.m. Late student arrivals (after 8 a.m.) must be escorted to the front office by a parent for check-in. The morning car loop begins wrapping up around 7:55 a.m.
Please do not drop your child off in the parking lot unattended. If you are not using the car loop, please park your vehicle and escort your child to the cross walk to cross with Mr. Grugan, our P.E. coach. Elementary students must be carefully supervised around moving vehicles. Thank you for keeping our students safe!
Tardy Students
Any student arriving after 8:00 a.m. must be escorted to the front office and signed in by a parent/guardian. The student must be present in the office with you to receive a tardy slip by one of our staff members. Please do not send your child to class prior to them receiving their tardy slip by a Sunrise employee. Thank you!
Dismissal Reminders
Dismissal is 2:30 p.m. daily and 1:15 p.m. EVERY Friday
Please note, our dismissal will be delayed if there is rainy or inclement weather during this time. Your patience is appreciated.
Approved Methods for Student Dismissal
Registered Bus Rider, Sunrise BAS program, Private Daycare Van Rider, Biker/Walker* (no vehicle drive ups*), or Car Loop
Dismissal via parent walk-up is not permitted. If you have a one-time specific circumstance, please go to the front office. Our staff will be happy to assist you. *Parents are welcome to walk-up to our biker/walker gate to meet their child to walk home. Parents entering the front gates via vehicle for student pick-up must use the car loop please.
We kindly ask you do not check out your students to avoid the car loop. Beginning at 2:15 p.m., our office staff begins working to help ensure our entire campus of students get home correctly and safely.
Car Loop Procedures
Please use both lanes of traffic once you pass the Welcome to Sunrise sign at the front entrance past the gates. If both lanes are not used, traffic will back up onto Mara Loma Blvd. and Babcock Street. Please do not block the lane of traffic used for vehicles exiting the parking lot. Form the second lane once you pass the welcome sign please. Once you approach the front of the school, a Sunrise staff member will help you merge to the correct lane for the pick-up of your student(s). If you are only picking up PreK or Kinder students, you will merge into the left lane and bypass the pick-up line in front of the school. You will get into line at the west end of the building near the bike rack for PreK/Kinder pick-up. If you are picking up 1st through 6th grade students, you will merge into the right lane and proceed to the pick-up line directly in front of the school. If you are picking up both, you will merge into the right lane to pick up your 1st through 6th grader(s) first, and then you will proceed down to the PreK/Kindergarten line. Our car loop will be slow during inclement weather. We thank you in advance for your patience. For your planning, our car loop has been running from 2:30 p.m. to about 2:45/2:50 p.m. Our goal is always student safety first. Please keep your car tag visible for our staff to see while in the car loop.
Inclement Weather Dismissal Procedures
If lightning is in the area, the release of students will be delayed until severe weather passes.
If weather is too severe for PreK and Kinder car rider students to release at the west end of the building, they will be moved to the front area of the building, which is covered. The car loop will run more slowly on these days. We will send a text message to notify parents if this decision is made.
Bikers and walkers will be held at school until heavy rain and/or lightning passes. Students may be checked out in the front office by someone on their approved pick up list. Please ensure pick-ups have a photo ID.
Weather in Florida can be unpredictable and changes can occur quickly. We will always do our best to communicate with parents via text message regarding dismissal changes. Thank you for your patience and support during these times.
Please always have your car tag or photo ID visible when picking up students! Thank you!
Volunteering at Sunrise
