• Important Security Notice: The Detroit Police Department has alerted us to a deceptive scheme targeting senior citizens in our community. Please share the link to this letter in your newsletters.

• Take Charge of Your Internet: To ensure all students have the access they need, the State of Michigan is conducting a Broadband Mapping Challenge, which can help secure federal funds to expand quality broadband to homes in our district. Michigan residents can visit the website to check the map for their home address and submit necessary corrections to the state internet map. This program may be the best opportunity to get all of our students and families online. Link to PDF

• COVID Tests Available: We are excited to announce that our district has received a generous donation of COVID tests from Wayne RESA. These tests are now available at our schools for families who may need them. We want to reassure you that the availability of these tests does not indicate a rise in COVID cases within our district. Rather, it reflects our proactive approach to maintaining the health and safety of our school community.
  Please note that these tests have an expiration date in September. While we hope they won't be needed, we want to ensure you're aware of this timeframe. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

• The Women of Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (WAIAM) is preparing for their third annual Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge - a virtual, free, state-wide aerospace competition for girls in 4th-8th grade - this Fall from October 12th - November 9th! Registration will open in July.

  The Flight Challenge is a fun, creative way for students to learn about a career in aerospace; ultimately strengthening the talent pipeline in Michigan. Keep reading for more details on the event.

  • Students participate in groups of 2-6 - they choose and register with their group.
  • Teams are challenged over a 4-week period beginning in October to design a sustainable flight vehicle to solve any problem of their choosing. Additional details will be communicated in the coming months.
  • Students will navigate subjects of engineering, design, finance, marketing and business planning.
  • Through the Challenge, students will have an opportunity to meet with women who work in aerospace across Michigan, learn about their role in the aerospace industry, and ask them for advice on their project.

  The Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge is broken into two main events along with 4-weeks of independent group work. The Virtual Kick-Off Event will be on October 12th featuring keynote and mentor speakers and serve as a platform to answer any questions. After 4-weeks of group work and meeting with mentors, the girls will come back together for the Virtual Final Presentations on November 9th.

  
  

  • Every participant will receive an event t-shirt and WAIAM will award prizes valued up to $1,000 for the top teams.

  The goal of WAIAM’s MGFFC is to strengthen the talent pipeline, educate students on the industry as a whole, and show them that you do not have to be an engineer to have a great career in aerospace!

Consistent attendance throughout the school day allows your child to engage in learning and maximize their educational opportunities fully.
