Charles Huber Elementary School
Spotlight on Sixth Grade at Charles Huber
November was a busy month at Charles Huber Elementary. We held our Fall Book Fair, hosted a Family Game Night, and welcomed several veteran visitors to join us for lunch.
This month, we’re especially proud to highlight our amazing sixth graders and the incredible work they’re doing. Five of our sixth-grade students launched the Charles Huber Post, a student-created newsletter sharing news about events at our school and among their classmates.
Here are some other things our sixth graders have been working on in their classes:
Social Studies: Students are learning about Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism in their World Religions Unit. This unit helps prepare them for the Ancient Civilizations Unit later in the year.
Math: Students are sharpening their problem-solving skills with games like RACK-O, which teaches them about probability and number sense.
Science: Sixth-grade scientists started their mineral unit by researching their birthstones. They’ve been testing and identifying minerals from classroom kits using what they’ve learned.
English Language Arts (ELA): Students are working on a Mysteries and Investigations Unit. After learning about historical topics like “Yellow Fever,” they are now starting a Sherlock Holmes-themed lesson. Pictured below, students examine clues to solve a mystery.
We’re proud of our students for all of their hard work!

November Highlights at Monticello
November was filled with smiles and excitement at Monticello! One of the biggest highlights for the month was our Veterans Day Celebration, sponsored by our Anchored4Life students with help from Ms. Mims, our school counselor. We are so thankful to all the veterans for their service and support of our Monticello community. A special thank-you goes to our guest speaker, John Russell, for helping us honor these heroes.
We hope everyone enjoyed the delicious breakfast, provided by Donut Palace, Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Panera, Texas Roadhouse Huber Heights, Kim Barnhart, and the Monticello PTO.
Our teachers continued to work hard all month to make sure students had the best learning experience—while also having fun! One highlight was the Hallway Rock, Paper, Scissors Challenge, organized by our School Culture Committee. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Mrs. Burke, who earned the most beads and took home the title! This fun activity brought lots of laughter and helped build a stronger sense of community at Monticello.
Thank you for supporting our school and helping make Monticello a place where Warriors Together, We Win!

Studebaker Preschool
As we close out the first semester, the Studebaker staff is reflecting on the successes we’ve achieved so far this school year. Our families have consistently supported various activities, including visits to the Huber Heights Branch Library, Preschoolers in the Park, Fall Fun with Grandparents, our Veterans Day Breakfast, and a trip to RollHouse. Parents and guardians have also actively participated in conferences and meetings to discuss their children’s education.
Thanks to the strong collaboration between our staff and families, many students can now identify their names, read sight words, identify days of the week, months, holidays, and use appropriate weather terms. Students are also writing, counting, sorting, categorizing objects, and identifying shapes. Some are even beginning to add and subtract!
In the coming year, our staff will continue focusing on building the foundational skills necessary for future academic success. Our goal is to ensure that our preschoolers are more than prepared when they enter kindergarten.
