VMMS Community Connection
Week of May 5, 2025 - May 9, 2025
Greetings, Viper Community!
We are in the homestretch of our school year... And yet, there are still so many awesome learning experiences to be had!
As an IB STEM school, our Science/Design department works collaboratively to develop comprehensive units of study that bring science concepts and phenomena to life. Relevance and connection to real-life application is what engages our Vipers in laboratory experiences. Each lab allows students to explore while solidifying what they know and understand about science.
As a Community School, we are always looking for partnerships with higher education or industry/career folks. They enrich the lab experiences and motivate our Vipers to consider science/engineering pathways in high school, college, and beyond! We're always open to new Community partnerships. Please contact Ms. Stollar, our Community School Resource Teacher @ ashleighstollar@vusd.org if you have connections that will enrich learning at VMMS.
Just this week, our 8th grade Vipers dissected a Dogfish Shark. They had a FIN-tastic time locating organs such as the liver, heart, stomach, intestines, brain, and much more…The week prior there was a special Shark Lab assembly presented by Cal State Long Beach students. (Go CSULB Sharks!)
Our 7th grade Viper scientists dissected owl pellets (regurgitated remains of food) and located the little bones that matched various prey. 6th grade Vipers had a special lab hosted by UCSD PhD Geneticist students, where they extracted the DNA from a strawberry. Our IB Scientists were all fully engrossed in these fantastic labs as you can see in the pics!
Check in with your Viper on the highlights of various lab experiences they have had this year.
Please call the office at (760) 726-5766 or visit the office M-F from 8:00-4:00 if you have any questions or need assistance.
Thank you!

Our Vipers are ROCKING End of Year Testing!
We are in Week 2 of CAASPP Testing!
Check out the motivational poster that was created and posted in one of our classrooms. Last week, our Vipers tackled the ELA portion of the test and they did amazing. Please see more details below regarding each grade level's testing days for Math.
Please remind your Viper the importance of trying their personal best. The goal is to exhibit growth from year to year. Fun Fact: Just 3-5 more correct questions from the year prior will show progress toward standard. The tests are "adaptive" meaning they will increase/decrease in difficulty based on a student's answers, this feature allows for solid data points that more accurately measure proficiency. Our Vipers are primed to do well and rock the test!

VUSD Parent Survey
Parents & Guardians: We invite you to complete our VUSD Parent Input Survey to help us continue improving the educational experience for all students. Please complete the survey for at least one of your children in VUSD. If you have more than one child in the district, we’d love for you to fill out a separate survey for each—it helps us better understand each unique experience.
In the coming weeks, students in grades 4, 7, and 10 will also complete their version of the survey during class time.
Your honest feedback plays a vital role in shaping our programs, services, and priorities across the district. Click here to take the VUSD Parent Input Survey now. Prefer a paper copy? Visit the VMMS office where our Community Liaison will have them available.
Thank you for being a valued partner in your child’s education!
