Daniel Wright
Molecules in Motion
Sixth-graders recently conducted an experiment by filling beakers with hot and cold water and observing how drops of food coloring moved through each temperature. They described the movement in relation to molecular motion and how it changes with temperature.
In this chemistry unit, students develop models to understand particle motion, the impact of temperature and kinetic energy on states of matter, and thermal energy transfer. They also explore basic atomic structure and composition, identify characteristics of chemical reactions, and learn how matter and mass are conserved during these reactions.

Teacher Conferences
Look for information soon regarding virtual teacher conferences that will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, and Friday, Oct. 25, instead of November. By moving the conferences earlier in the school year, families will have the opportunity to connect with teachers before report cards are released on Wednesday, Nov. 20. This change allows for more timely discussions about student progress and provides earlier access to additional support and resources.
Veterans Sought
Calling all American Veterans and Active Duty Military Personnel! On Veterans Day Monday, Nov. 11, all Daniel Wright students will celebrate and honor our local Veterans. The Veterans Day committee wants students to understand the contributions of our military and why we honor them on this day. We are asking for any volunteers who would like to share with students why they joined the service, how they served, and the lasting impact being in the service has made on their lives. These conversations leave a lasting impact on students' educational experience in D103. There will also be a celebration of service and an opportunity to connect with other local Veterans. If you, a grandparent or neighbor is interested in joining us in-person on Monday Nov. 11, please contact Erinn Vincent evincent@d103.org or Kristine Rickert krickert@d103.org.

All seventh- and eighth-grade students are invited to participate in the Science Fair Club. Students independently (or with a partner) investigate a problem that can be solved scientifically. Students will perform all steps that a "real" scientist would follow in order to learn more about their chosen problem, perform an experiment or design a new tool to solve the problem, and analyze their results. The first meeting takes place after school on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Thanks to an investment by the Lake County Regional Office of Education through June 30, 2030, every LPVSD #103 student in grades 3-8 has access to the Varsity Tutors for Schools platform. We understand that homework can sometimes be challenging, and as parents, it's not always easy to assist with every subject. That's why we're introducing an innovative initiative to enhance your child's learning experience.
This access includes:
24/7 On-Demand Chat Tutoring
On-Demand Essay Review
100+ Weekly Live Classes
Recorded Enrichment Classes
Self-Study & Practice Resources
Here is a pamphlet and a video that provides an overview of the platform features. Students can go to their Clever Dashboard and select the Varsity Tutors icon to login to the platform. Any chat sessions students participate in are recorded and posted on their dashboard for future reference.
Students in grades 3-8 login into the platform on their school device through Clever (Instructions). We encourage you to explore this tool with your child(ren) as an additional resource to support our students’ growth and achievement. Please be aware that Varsity Tutors' enrichment classes do not serve as substitutes for D103 classes. Students are still required to complete all D103 courses, including Algebra I.

The 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month theme is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together,” according to the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers.
