PTA Myths ............. BUSTED!
MYTH: Joining PTA requires you to volunteer.
TRUTH: If you want to volunteer, that’s great, but your support as a member is enough. The PTA appreciates all members, not just members who volunteer.
MYTH: I don't have time.
TRUTH: YOU decide how much time you can give. If you are unable to volunteer your time, please consider giving your financial support and help fund activities for the children throughout the year.
At its most basic level, "joining the PTA" is not about volunteering. It's about advocacy. Your decision to purchase a PTA membership (and stay current on what is happening with the school) is significant all by itself. You can also be a champion for our school by offering financial support.
MYTH: I will be expected to go to all the meetings.
TRUTH: ABSOLUTELY NOT! Every person has a different capacity to give and be involved. We offer PM and AM meetings to provide a variety of options for our families.
By joining the PTA you WILL be notified when there are volunteer opportunities, when specific events are being held and any other information, we feel it is important for you to have as parents in our community.

Nuts About Science Is BACK! Registration opens 9/4
From Mrs. Serazio
Tiger Tuesdays are off to a great start at Roosevelt! All students are encouraged to show their Tiger pride on Tuesdays by wearing Roosevelt gear or our school colors of blue and orange!
Our PBIS expectation focus for next week will be in the cafeteria. We are working on keeping our cafeteria clean and holding students responsible for cleaning up their messes after eating. Please talk with your child about how they eat and clean up in the cafeteria. We are also looking for volunteers to assist in the cafeteria any day from 11:40-12:30. If you can help, please let Mrs. Serazio know at jserazio2@livoniapublicschools.org. Thank you in advance!
PBIS
Thank you to all the families who returned the PBIS commitment sheet included with our pamphlet. Our staff and students are dedicated to being respectful, responsible, and safe as stated in our Positive Behavior Matrix. Students can earn “red tickets” for following the matrix expectations. Every Friday, teachers pull two red tickets, and the students can come to the lobby for a special prize!
Medications and Health Information - Please read!
If your child has a medical condition and/or requires medication at school, please download the forms your child needs for school, based on their health conditions (Life-Threatening Food and/or Insect Allergy, Allergy IHCP, Asthma, Diabetes, Seizure Disorder). New forms must be completed by you and your child’s physician each year (dated after the last day of school of the previous school year). Please ensure that the forms include both your signature and your child’s doctor’s signature. We cannot dispense any medication without these completed forms. Forms can be found on our school website under the parent tab as “Health Forms”.
Medications and forms can be brought to the school office anytime moving forward. Don't delay in sharing medical updates as you get updated information.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Serazio at jserazio2@livoniapublicschools.org.
September Lunch Menu - Update
PLTW with Mr. Morrow
Hello Scientists,
This week in PLTW we focused on our Project Lead the Way curriculum. 4th Graders worked to classify different organisms based on the structures on their bodies. 3rd graders were introduced to our Vex IQ kits and will use them to explore simple machines. 2nd graders learned that all things are made of matter, they were able to create a mini-invention and rearrange the same materials to develop something new! 1st graders were introduced to our Light and Sound unit. They searched the classroom for all of the things that create light or sound. Kindergarten and young fives learned about things that are considered "living" or "non-living" with a sort! We are looking forward to another wonderful week!
See you next week!

Art with Ms. Salvia
This week in Art, our Roosevelt Tiger Artists either continued projects and concepts that we began discussing last week or started something new.
Cub Crew Artists started a new project that will become a part of something else next week. We used blue paper and blue paint to create texture on the paper using a roller brush. What do you think we'll transform these "bubble" paintings into next week?
Grades 2-4 continued the "Illustrated Name Project" that we started sketches for last week. We talked about the importance of starting with a sketch before moving to the final masterpiece. By starting with a sketch, we can work through to edit our ideas and fix any mistakes we might run into before starting our final masterpiece. This helps build confidence in our student artists!
Young 5's through 1st grade continued talking about the element of art, "Line." We practiced drawing lots of types of lines such as vertical, horizontal, diagonal squiggly, zig-zag, and loops in a variety of ways throughout grade levels.
Music with Ms. Grammatico
Happy first full week Tigers! We had a great week in music. 3rd and 4th graders continued to work on their All Are Welcome activity by adding body percussion to their original rhythm compositions. Some groups decided to perform their compositions for the class! Next week we will complete the activity by adding instruments and placing their compositions into the "B" section of the " All Are Welcome" chant. Ask your child what their group came up with! 2nd graders continued working on their previous songs as well as being introduced to a new echo song called "I Met a Bear." This is a familiar tune that you might know! Ask them to sing it to you. They also learned a new chant "There Was a Little Turtle." Kindergarten and 1st graders learned two new songs this week, "My Name is Michael" and "Pitter Patter." They also used scarves to move and follow directions to the song "Blowing in the Wind." Can't wait for next week!
LMC with Mr. Pinta
This week was definitely an exciting one as students got their first looks at the newly renovated library. The comments did not disappoint, as there were many oohs, aahs, "this looks amazing," "so much better than our old library," and "I love the colors. My favorites though were "It smells like IKEA" and "this looks like an arcade!"
Second, third, and fourth grade students learned where our books were located in the shelves, checked out books, tried out some of our new seating options, and worked on a short brain break activity in the new Learning Lab. Young Fives, Kindergarten and first graders listened to a story, checked out books, and did some work in our Learning Lab as well. Our Cub program also got accustomed to our new space this week, checked out and explored books, and played with some STEM toys of choice.
