THERE IS NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, JANUARY 20TH IN HONOR OF MLK, JR. DAY
January 17, 2025
A Message from the Principal
Hello Woodland Families,
Today marks the end of the first semester, and we are gearing up for report cards to be going home soon. Your student will be bringing their report cards home on Friday, January 24th.
The third quarter of the school year brings us into a season of testing. Over the next few months, we will have NWEA, WIDA, and MSTEP testing. To help your child prepare, make sure that they have good attendance at school, read together at night, and play learning or board games together. If you would like more ideas on how to help your student be prepared for these standardized tests, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher.
We also have many fun community events coming up in the second half of the year. Please don't forget to mark your calendars for our Sweetheart Dance (February 8th), Bingo for Books (March 6th), the Art Show (May 1st), and Boys Bonanza (May 16th).
Lastly, I need to share a few parking lot reminders with you to ensure that we have a safe and efficient arrival and dismissal for all of our Wildcats! First of all, please don't forget that we do not allow cars to travel in the bus lane. All cars must enter and exit through the light. Secondly, if your child is able to unbuckle and get out of the car independently, I ask you to please drop your student off in the pick-up line. This creates a safe and streamlined arrival and dismissal for our students. Lastly, when in the pick-up line, please make sure to be alert (keep phone use to a minimum) and make sure to pull all the way up in the pick-up/drop-off line to ensure that we can get as many cars in one row as possible.
Have a nice long weekend,
Mrs. Katalin Rosinski
Principal

Woodland Google Calendar
We know that keeping track of all the dates and events can be overwhelming, so we have decided to try and consolidate all that information to make it a little easier! We have created a Google Calendar where we will put all of our events and activities that take place. You can add the Google Calendar app to your phone to easily check and see what is going on each day. You can also integrate the calendar into your currently used phone calendar. We hope that this calendar will create a seamless way to keep track of all the things going on here at Woodland.
You can see the Woodland Google calendar here.
You can find instructions on how to subscribe to this calendar here.
You can find other helpful tips and tricks on using Google Calendar here.
The calendar will be updated daily with events, activities, things to remember, and due dates. This information will also be shared through our normal communication methods of email, text messages, and Facebook posts. We hope this calendar will be an additional tool to stay updated on events taking place here at Woodland.

Our School is Peanut Free & Tree Nut Free
Please remember that Woodland is a Peanut-Free and Tree-Nut Free school. Do not send any snacks or lunch items that "may contain nuts" or "manufactured on the same equipment or in a facility that contains nut products". We have some students and staff in our building that have very severe allergies to any kind of nuts, both peanuts and tree nuts. Thank you for your cooperation in this very serious matter to keep our everyone safe.
Lost & Found
Woodland's Lost and Found is OVERFLOWING! It is located by the gym and cafeteria. If your child is missing a jacket, sweatshirt, lunchbox, etc., please remind your child to look in the Lost and Found. Parents, please plan on checking out the lost and found if you are in the school because all unclaimed items will be donated before our Mid-Winter Break in February.
Positivity Project - P2
This week, our school community focused on the trait of Prudence. This means you plan for the future and achieve your goals by making careful everyday choices. Prudence is the ability to do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason. It's a future-oriented way of thinking that helps a person set goals, make plans, and have the discipline to accomplish them. It is cognitive - more a strength of the head than of the heart.
Why Does It Matter?
Prudence supports effective individual self-management. Whether aspiring for an athletic record, academic grade, or purchasing a car, foresight and planning are necessary. However, long-term goals, even with a plan, can only be obtained by overcoming those impulses and desires that steer you away from your goals. Prudence provides the wisdom to know which character strength to leverage, at which time, to achieve your desired end state.
To practice and encourage the character strength of prudence with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
After Winter Break, we will focus on Perseverance.
Happy Birthday

Student Portrait of a Graduate Poster Contest - EXTENDED!
Students, it's time to get creative! Avondale School District is inviting all students to design a poster that represents our district's Portrait of a Graduate!
Avondale's Portrait of a Graduate is a framework for the skills, knowledge, and character traits our district aims for its students to develop by the time they graduate. This includes Conscientious Citizen, Creative Problem Solver, Effective Communicator, Innovative Thinker, and Self-Actualized Risk Taker. Our schools use this model to align teaching, programs, and culture around these core competencies, ensuring that every student graduates equipped for lifelong success.
Winners from elementary, middle, and high school will have their designs professionally styled, printed, and displayed throughout the district! Submit your poster to the school front office by January 31, 2025. Avondale staff and families will then vote for their favorites!
