From the Principal...Steve Morrill

Last Thursday and this past Monday our students completed their winter i-Ready diagnostic assessments in both math and reading. I would like to publicly recognize the entire Thompson community for giving these assessments the necessary attention required. Students were focused on doing their best in order to get an accurate picture of their academic growth so far this year while our teachers supported an outstanding testing environment. Students will be sent home with the results of these assessments in mid-January.

Next week Thompson will be filled with memorable learning events and fun activities as we finish up the second quarter of the school year. Despite the anticipation of a two-week winter break, the Thompson staff will continue to work to make the classroom environment meaningful for all. Please encourage your child to focus on the tasks at hand and be engaged in learning throughout next week!

TMS Spirit Week - December 13th - December 17th

The Student Council is hosting a Spirit Week next week!

Monday: Still Asleep Day! Wear PJ’s and comfy clothes.
Tuesday: Tacky Tuesday! Mismatched clothes and crazy hair.
Wednesday: Tropical/Beach day. Wear tropical clothing that you might wear on the beach!
Thursday: Sports Day! Wear your favorite jersey.
Friday: Festive Day! Put on a Santa Hat and an ugly sweater!

6th Grade WEB Event

Holiday in Whoville will be the next WEB event on Wednesday, December 15 from 3:45-5:15. We will watch the movie “The Grinch-2018”, have a snack, and make a craft. Students MUST have their parent's permission to attend and they MUST sign up on the google form on their team’s google classroom by Monday, December 13th.

PTO Holiday Cookies

Help make our staff at Thompson a sweet treat this holiday season!

Drop off homemade treats in disposable containers in the main office anytime on Wednesday, December 15th or up until 9:00 am on the morning of December 16th. Assembling and distribution will take place on Thursday, December 16th from 9:30 - 11:30 am in Thompson's main foyer. Please consider volunteering to assemble the boxes of cookies using the signup link below.

What can you bake? Anything your family loves! We ask that you donate in increments of 2 dozen, anything from cookies, brownies or any holiday sweet treat. These will be boxed up and given to each staff member. If you make GLUTEN free or NUT free cookies, please label them that way BEFORE you drop them off! If possible, please no chocolate chip cookies. Important Safety Reminder for TMS Parents

When it comes to issues that concern students and/or school safety, “If you see something, say something - immediately”. On a school day during staffed hours (7:30 am - 4:00 pm), the student, parent, or community member should call the school and/or seek an administrator ASAP for prompt action. If this information emerges outside of the school day, please call 911 immediately. The safety and wellbeing of our Thompson community are always our top priority!

Thompson Yearbooks

Every year, Thompson students publish a Thompson yearbook. Students who decide to purchase a yearbook are given this keepsake at the end of the school year. Buying a yearbook is optional and not all students choose to own one. The price of the yearbook is $25.

Have you ordered your Thompson 21-22 Yearbook? You can check your PushCoin account to see if you have purchased one by going to 'transactions' and then adjusting the start date back to April 1, 2021. The Peer Leadership Program for Incoming St. Charles East Freshmen

Dear Parents of 8th Graders Attending East,

Peer Leadership is an extracurricular program that matches selected incoming freshmen with juniors and seniors who make the transition into high school fun and easy and mentor them throughout the year. Because this program meets during the school day, it has to be put into a student’s schedule when registering for next year’s classes. Although we would like to be able to offer this to all interested incoming freshmen, our numbers are limited by available classroom space and our budget. Therefore, in order to start the selection process, interested students should apply using the application found at the bottom of the Friday Forecast.

If your child is interested in the program, please fill out the application and e-mail it to Jim Reed, the Peer Leadership Coordinator (James.Reed@d303.org). Completed applications must be received no later than Tuesday, January 11, 2022. For more information about Peer Leadership, please attend Future Saints Night in January.

E-Learning Plan and Emergency Days

The School Board has approved an E-Learning plan that gives the district the option to offer remote learning in place of emergency days. Currently, our last day of school is Tuesday, May 24, which is the week before Memorial Day. As we move into the winter months, we want to update you on the plan for how the district will manage emergency days and e-learning days.

If we experience inclement weather, the first three days will be “snow days” that will be made up at the end of the school year on May 25, 26, and 27 as needed.
Subsequent emergency days will be remote days so the last attendance day will still be before Memorial Day.
If there is a long stretch of inclement weather (blizzard, polar vortex, etc.), we may split the days into “snow days” and e-learning days so as to not have too many non-attendance days in a row.
